...er yes, hello:seeya:

I'm a middle aged guy from the UK (South Wales) who has let life and the all you can eat Chinese buffet get to him and is now suffering as a result.

When I look back about 10 years I was a very fit mountain biker and trail runner who was in excellent health...my diet was never good but being active and sporty meant I could get away with a multitude of diet sins.

Time has been a cruel mistress and fast forward to today I'm hitting the scales at approx 16st 3lbs and generally feeling rubbish as I'm plagued by digestive and gastric issues and seemingly constant headaches. My diet is quite franky shocking and the only veggie I see is the peas in the special fried rice, to make matters worse I've even discovered that a pea isn't even a vegetable...oh dear:leaving:

So, the plan is to give it 10 weeks....a 10 week plan to get active again and to knock all the takeaways and processed food/ready meals on the head. I have a 18 month old little lad and I owe it to him if nobody else to get this fat forty something starting to feel a bit better about himself and gaining back some self respect and energy.

Like all good diets, this one is starting tomorrow! 10 weeks from 24/06/11 to 02/09/11...with that in mind I'm off for my lunch, my final bacon and chicken ranch from the Subway Gods! I know I'm not even going to enjoy it buy hey, it fills that hole in my soul...hmm, this is going to throw up a few questions for me I think!

....anyway, whatch this space as I'm starting the diary tomorrow to record how it goes. I hope you all read it and post me some tips and motivation as crikey I'm gonna need it.

Hi, and welcome!

Do you have any specific strategies in mind to help you lose the weight?

Best of luck :)

Thanks for the welcome.

My main strategy is to cut off a leg!! No, in all seriousness I do no exercise and have a sedentary job and my diet is appalling so I'm sure cooking healthy meals from scratch and increasing my exercise will get me going in the right direction.

I'm currently having a ponder on targets, aims and strategies and will outline those in my opening diary post.

I used to purchase food from subway quite frequently before I started my diet, didn't have any problem with devouring two foot longs in one sitting!

With all of the trimmings and sauce piled on, I've no doubt that I would have been consuming more than what I take in during a whole day now.

Remember to keep it simple to start out with, ditching the Subway and any other take outs would be a great first step.

How tall are you at the moment? Is your main goal weight loss or fitness? Will you be going beyond the ten weeks if you see good results?

Best of luck to you.

Yep, I aim to keep it simple!

One of the problems I know I will encounter is the fact that I am a raging perfectionist with OCD traits and as soon as a tiny thing goes wrong I see the whole thing as ruined...I'm really going to have to watch that and live by that adage;

"never let the perfect get in the way of the good"

I chose the 10 week timeframe as it just gives me a measurable period in which I can see how things are going and to give me a target to aim for. I'm not really to fussed on the idea of dieting so much as wanting to make a lifestyle change of which what eat is but one aspect. I'm hoping it is for life and not just for 10 weeks so I'm seeing this as just the kickstart if you like.

Lol, I'm not really a Subway fan but it is just quick and easy and gives you that blood sugar spike that i suppose we all get addicted to. The funny thing is that I don't even enjoy the crap food I eat but it just becomes a habit and I'm sure that there are 101 reasons why this sort of comfort food becomes an emotional crutch.

Whilst I really do need to lose the pounds I also need to get my health back in some sort of shape. I'm feeling really crappy with headaches, fatigue and ongoing niggling issues that I'm sure are partly caused by me diet...lets be honest, somebody can't expect to feel well if they are constantly shovelling rubbish and junk into themselves.

I think I have all the smarts with this...I'm quite savvy with my nutrition knowledge and I know full well what I need to be eating it is just starting to walk the walk as well as talking the talk.
