im 18 6'2 320lbs im ready to lose all this weight. my problem all my life has been my weight. im trying to get down to 220lb by august when i start college so what should i do

im also looking to buy a accurate scale to weigh my self so any advice would be helpfull thanks

As far as scales go, i really can't suggest a great one. i really thought digital was the way to go, and I've recently realized, its not, lol. Maybe you can visit a dct. once a week or once a month and use their scales its far more accurate.

As far as loosing weight goes its comes down to calories in vs calories out. Eat less Move more. Try finding ways to cut calories in your diet (never going under 1200) and Find ways to fit in more excersize!

is it possible to loose 100lbs by august being that ive been fat all my life

im getting ready to start my diet next week this week im getting prepaired for the long haul.

A healthy weight loss is 1 or 2 pds a week. I know you don't want to hear it, no one does, but the sooner you accept that, the better.

you very well could drop lots of weight right off the bat, but it is going to slow down after your body adjusts.

100 pds by august is alot of weight, i mean, thats like 25/30 pds every month. Maybe you could loose that your first month??? but I doubt you'll continue to loose than much every month.

Your best bet is to settle in for the long run. Be consistant. Be committed and Get healthy!

im sorry not august im meant october anyways thanks again for all your help i feel confident that i can do this.

welcome to the forum and i think you will find the support your looking for here!

100lbs is a bit of a stretch in just 5 months. But you can probably take off 60-70 if you want it badly enough. I started at 270, and 3 months in I've dropped 40 down to around 230, if that helps. In the beginning, the lbs will fall off in leaps and bounds. But the further you go, the slower the progress becomes. You might want to make 220 your goal for year end or semester end to be more realistic. As far as scales, I don't recommend digital. I'd just get one with a dial.

i plan to do a veggie and meat diet but no bread or carbs and lots of water

and as exercise running weight lifting and some cardio but im cutting down on tv time

That sounds like a very solid plan.

A few things that seem to help me:

1 Weights 3 times a week is enough.

2 Running - every day seems to be too much for me. On days that I weight train, I just do some cardio on the stationary bike at the end of the workout.

3 Walking an hour is like running for half an hour (roughly speaking). So on days you don't feel like running, just go for a very long walk. Maybe go to the mall by foot or something. For example, I go to the movies by foot. The theater is about a half hour's walk from home, so that gives me an hour of walking there and back when I go catch a flick.

And, definitely, TV is evil, skip it :)

Good luck and let me know if I can be of any help!

thanks for the tips.

Good Luck!!

John,

Love the name. zo6vette. I am a die hard vette man. I have a 04 zo6 brand new with 900 miles. Black on black!!! Also a 69 that I build from the ground up. Started building it when I was 14. It was a complete disaster when I started. Wasn't worth squat when I started.

Good luck and I have also been in your shoes in terms of weight problems. I was a whopping 333 pounds and I am now 196 pounds. My suggestion to you is get an educated plan and follow it though. Go in it with a goal!! Not "lose weight". Quantify it! This is as much mental as anything else. You can't wander through the program with no plan and no strategy and you have a tremendous chance to go nowhere and I know you can do it!! Don't forget about the carbs they are a very important part of your nutrional needs for your body. Good luck to you and stay the course. You can and will make but you have to believe! Every calorie counts and every decision you make in terms of food has a "cost" to your fitness goal. Make the decisions good ones.

I would be more than happy to try and answer any questions for you.

Thanks
Mike

John,

Congrats and that's one heck of a reward when you make it!!

I couldn't run when I started so I started with the stair stepper to get my cardio. I was to embarrassed to run outside so I bought I threadmill and did it in my basement until I could run 2-3 miles nonstop and then I went outside jogging. The key is to get a good pair of running shoes. Like Ascics, Brooks, or Mizunos. If you can't run long then run as long as you can then walk for a little bit to catch your breath and then run again. Try to get 40 minutes of cardio in. Any other questions please ask. You probably hate running like I did but now I LOVE IT!!!

Congrats again and remeber every decision you make towards food has a results on your goals. Make the decisions good ones.

that's one awesome reward!!!

Good luck!!!

If I can help you just ask. Be sure you complete the goal section. It is critical. FYI I went from 48" pants to a very loose 32" pants. It is still difficult to see myself as lean. It is harder to retrain your brain than to actually lose the weight. TRAIN HARD.... there is not greater reward!!!

In terms of a scale I used a brand called "Taylor" I bought it at Walmart. It also had the electronic Body fat sensor that you will need. I recommend it instead of the calipers becuasethe calipers are very difficult when you are above 260 is what I have found. The electronic scale is not very accurate but it is consistant if you use it the same time every day. Use it right when you wake up. It will be different all the times of the day and sometimes even after consecutive readings but it is better than nothing. And you need to know your body fat. Now that I am using the calipers I use the analog Taylor's doctor scale I bought at Walmart or Target I can't remember.

I don't like the digital either but it is the only way that I know that 's feasable for you to get your body fat reading which is far more important than your weight.

HOW BAD DO YOU WANT IT?.

John,

I don't remember the exact model # of the electronic scale that I used but the next time I go to Walmart I'll look for you. I don't have it anymore becuase my son jumped on it to many times (yes I mean JUMPED). Once you get into the mid 20 percentages of BF you'll want to use the cheap Accu-measure calipers. It terms of the model of scale I would worry about it. Anyone that that check BF will work. Believe it or not Acurracy is not as important as consistantcy.
