I'm aiming for 59kg

Thank you all. Its nice when people pop by.

Its also good to think that what i'm doing might inspire others. I really do believe in the benefits of cooking your own food. Its cheaper too.

Toolips, when i want to get fit from scratch, i always start by walking and pretty soon i can run a bit. Well if i could afford to go to a gym, i might do that too but walking and running are free and good for the mind and soul too. It really doesn't take that long to build up fitness. I think now because i've done this a few times since i gave up smoking, i find it easier each time i start fresh, unless there's a long gap between bouts of fitness. I've also got some really nice places to walk. But when i lived in the city, i used also to enjoy walking through the suburbs looking in people's gardens.

May 8 Day 37 (on this site) + one month more wednesday

Weight: 61.6kg
same

8.30 am Breakfast
1/2 cup oats
1/2 cup full cream milk
1/2 cup low fat milk
1 pear
1 sugar banana

9am coffee w 1/2 cup milk

12.00am: Lunch
Lentil salad with half a cabatti(?Italian bread) roll
This was quite a big salad

1/2 cup brown lentils (soaked, then cooked till soft but still holding their shape- its not actually necessary to soak them but cooking will be less)
1 tomato
1/2 lebanese cucumber
lettuce leaves
3 tsp avocado mixed up with
1/2 lemon juice
1 tsp balsamic vinegar
Ground black pepper

3pm: cup of tea w 1/3 cup milk

6pm: glass of wine

Exercise: No formal exercise but I got busy putting in my irrigation because the internet dropped out and it motivated me to get onto it. Doing that involved quite a bit of walking and in any event, a lot more exercise than yesterday before i went out for my walk.

Only two weeks before i go away. :jump: I've got a lot to do still including cleaning all my lourves. That will burn quite a few calories but i'd still rather not have to do it. :svengo:

May 8 continued

8pm: Dinner

Thin spaghetti w ratatouille (stewed vegetables a la the vegetable cooking club) http://weight-loss.fitness.com/club/48149-vegetable-dish-cooking-club.html#post780067

Less than 1/4 cup of yoghurt
1 sugar banana

1 good sized eggplant, diced in large chunkes or sliced
1 zucchini, thick slices
1 red capsicum, diced in 1 inch square or more sized pieces
1 green capsium, diced as above
2 or 3 large tomatoes, coursely diced
3 cloves of garlic, finely diced
1 large onion, finely diced
1 tsp of dried thyme or other dried herb such as oregano.
4tbsp extra virgin olive oil. Actually i think this recipe will still be ok with 2tbsp oil.
A little salt
Black pepper
a bit of red chilli (optional)

Saute the onion and garlic in the oil until soft. Put all the vegetables in either a large saucepan and stew for say 45 minutes, or for less time in a pressure cooker. Or put it all in an oven dish, mix it well and bake it for 1.5 hours or until well stewed.

You can also cook it in the oven with the lid off. It will be drier but not dry. Just less stewy.

Whatever way you cook it, the vegetables should be very soft and the aubergine should be creamy.

That is my official version. This particular recipe had some green beans in as well because i needed to use them up; only a small zucchini, 2 red and 1 green capscium (pepper).

Weight: 61.8kg
up 200g

1/2 cup full cream milk

salad with lettuce, 2 piece of tomato, 2 pieces of cucumber and a dressing

2pm: So when i got home I had a half roll of ciabatta bread. - yum

6.15pm: glass of red wine

Exercise: walk 4km run 4km

I was able to clock the distance of my route in the car earlier to day and realised it was 12km!! No wonder i felt a bit wasted afterwards. I’ve shortened the distance a bit lately because it just takes too long to go the whole way. About 2 hours.

I bought a dress today. It was dirt cheap ($10.50!!) so i had to buy it. It is a clingy black elasticated simple thing, no sleeves, circular neckline. It looks pretty good if i say so myself. I wouldn’t have bought it probably, if not. When i tried it on i thought oh this will look good when i get to my goal weight so I was a bit surprised to see that it already looks good. I like it for easy to wear in any circumstances type of dress. Right now i’m wearing it. Its the sort of thing that i would like to wear in the evenings after my shower when its not too hot and not too cold. Like just now. This was the consolation prize. I actually saw a really nice dress in Sea Folly that the shop assistant was wearing but the only one left was much too big. There’s no way it would have been a bargain price so i probably was lucky about that. Needless to say i wasted most of today window shopping in town instead of working on my irrigation system. Well i will do it tomorrow!

In the supermarket this morning, I was almost tempted to buy some cheese. Our coles supermarket has fairly recently had an upgrade and its pretty damn good now. They have a great seafood section and also a great cheese section - considering our town is only about 5000. But its a tourist town and the tourists have dollars and like nice food so we get things like Roquefort in the cheese section now. But! It was $13+ for not a very big piece and it was that in the end that stopped me from going there. I will wait till i get to France for my Roquefort.

May 9 continued

7.30pm: Dinner
Weird combination, I know - French and chinese!
3 Steamed dimsims and 1 cup ratatouille (recipe as per previous post)

I hate going to the dentist! I really wish the mouth would just be fine all the time but that isn't how it goes. I hope yours is feeling better. You did wonderful resisting temptation! I know what its like for bad news to make you want to bury your head in something sweet. It never makes anything better though and sometimes makes your feel even worse afterwards which makes it pointless.

The dress sounds really cute! I'm glad you already look good in it so that you can wear it right away! I love wearing new clothes :) You probably burned lots of calories with window shopping. Your dinner sounded delicious and you can call it an international dinner lol I hope you are having a great day so far :)

lol, I like the idea that window shopping is good exercise. Its certainly better than being glued to my computer all day as happens quite a bit too. But window shopping is hard on the wallet so one has to be careful.:iagree:

Oooh news. I've got four brand new ducklings today. I adore ducklings. Even more than chickens.

I'll name them Sunflower after you - the females. How's that.

I recently named all my chickens Max after a friend on another forum.

Since they often look exactly like each other, i've decided its not a smart move to give them individual names. Generational names will do. And if one becomes a rooster or a drake, he can have a new name then.

I love having them around. I end up feeding most of the eggs back to them to help with their diet. I keep them free range. But the ostensible functional reason, is that i like them too poo all over the place and fertilise my garden and to eat the insects. I'm trying to establish a permaculture garden (growing my own food) and animals should be part of that. But i just adore having live animals around. The more the merrier.

So now we've got one dog - my father's dog
one cat - mine
one rooster, 5 hens and now 3 chicks
one older drake, four just at equiv of 18 years old when testosterone is mad and one still equiv about 12-14 years old
4 ducks, one young duck equiv about 12 and now 4 day-old ducklings.

Wildlife consists of scrub hens (sometimes)less often now that i've got the poultry
bandicoots (a wild ratty type creature with a cute nose)
nasty white tailed rats
big snakes
rats and mice i never see cause the snakes eat them - there can't be too many of these about.
lots of birds - cockatoos, lorikeets and various other things.
lots of insects
and lots more mosquitos - far too many in fact

Oh and the ubiquitous cane toads - lots of those

lizards

That's approximately about it.

That is so cool! I'd love ducks and chickens and stuff :D
And yayyy! Sunflower the ducklings! :grouphug: I love it!
You're ever so lucky. Do you have a big garden then? And what sort of dog do you have?

I love animals :)

Yeah we've got a big garden. The dog is a german pointer. She's so lovely. Very gentle temperament except when she's being boisturous in play then she's pretty stupid with her feet.

Hey fortyfour!!! What a farm you got over there! I forgot to ask from the beginning, is 59kg your goal, and why that number?

Hope you're having a great day!

That is a great idea with naming them the same name until they start looking differently! My aunt sells organic chicken eggs and organic vegetables. It's really nice. She has a huge garden and sells things at the farmers markets. I'm thinking we should get a big yard when we move. I really want to grow herbs and my own veggies. I used to not be interested at all in stuff and then I started eating better. Hope your having a good day :)

Hi miss Poodle and Tally thanks for stopping by.

I chose 59kg because I thought I would look good at that stage. It was a bit of a stab in the dark actually. Then i asked my sister how much she weighed. She's a tiny bit taller than me and has the perfect skinny figure for our shape and size. She tells me she's 55kg. So that's my goal now. It's not quite a low a BMI of 18.9 but its the lowest health weight according to my trusted diet book. My sister and I have a very similar body shape. There's some pictures of her back further in my diary but i know it would be very tedious to find the link now. Whenever i've been really low weight, i haven't actually weighed myself.

Tally, oh do get a place big enough for growing vegies and whathaveyou. I actually find growing vegetables quite a lot of work - ie all the planting out and seed raising bugs me but the rewards are fantastic once you know what you are doing. Its a bit tricky getting started - steep learning curve required. Its a lot easier to raise ducklings and chickens to be honest. Except for pumpkins which we've had coming out our ears. That said, i am trying to grow temperate vegies in a tropical climate so that has a lot to do with it. Because i am going away shortly, i haven't been able to start with this seasons vegies yet. But when i return i'm keen to grow chook food as well as vegies. I have a lot of fruit trees in and these can be easier i think to look after than vegies and of course very rewarding too. It only astounds me that people don't grow fruit trees more often. In colder climates, berries also seem to be a really good thing. Its too hot here for berries.

Tally my ducks, in particular, don't grow up to look different mainly. They are muscovies and i got them off a breeder. So for example, all my last batch of boys none of them has any markings that make it easy to spot the difference. They are all pure white. Between all my older girls, only one looks different. She has some black on her head. Its impossible to tell the difference between. But that lot i called Bertie for the drake, maude, mavis, gertrude, and ethel. Or something like that. The only name i use is Bertie though. I have generic names i use for the others.

Your post reminded me- sort of a tangent- of my grandparents' garden growing up (slightly bigger than average suburban garden, I would say). Lots of pumpkins, some failed/ failing fruit trees, a veggie patch (can't remember what was in it, the pumpkins were elsewhere- apart from the cherry tomatoes, which we'd be asked to pick for lunch/ dinner and we'd end up eating too many so there weren't enough), and chokos (sp?) everywhere. I miss chokos- I know they're "loo fruit" (they were indeed growing off the remains of the shed containing the dunny- which hadn't been in use since before I was born), but they're a nice flavour. (Did you see that show on the ABC some years ago when they introduced Jamie Oliver to a choko, and he bit into it, raw? I think everyone watching recoiled at that, and then he gave an absolutely fantastic suggestion on how to cook it. Amazing) Bloody cheap as I recall (but my parents refused to pay for them, even after my grandfather moved away, because "you don't pay for loo fruit").

/ back to your regularly scheduled thread

LOO Fruit!! :smilielol5:

I've never heard of that. I don't eat chokos but i would if they were growing here.

I've got some kangkong growing around my pond. I don't eat that either cause i'm sorta lazy too. I've got sweet potatoes growing all over the joint and the leaves are edible but i haven't tried them yet. I must do that. I've been pulling them up though. They are a nice ground cover and seem not to need water.

um what else was i going to say...oh yeah, no i didn't see Jamie Oliver eat a choko and ....

I am a cherry tomato lover. I think there's simply no point in picking them to serve. They should be eaten directly from the bush. They are natures lollies. So very yummy and they grow easily up here. Unfortunately the chooks also like them, so we are in competition.

Back to the main story... breakfast today

May 11 Day 40 (on this site) + one month more

Weight: 61.6kg
up 200g

It was cold this morning so i had a cooked breakfast. It did the trick. And hours later i am still relishing it. As you can see i also put it through the calorie counter as i wasn't too sure if it was too much food, but i think it tallies up quite well, even if the eggs and tomatos are bigger than i have estimated. I can't weigh them as my scale is an old fashioned one and wouldn't be accurate but my eggs really are as small as any supermarket small egg.

8.00 am Breakfast
2 Slices multigrain toast - 233cals
2 small eggs cooked in 1 tsp olive oil 108 + 40= 148 cals
2 medium tomatos grilled w oregano herbs on top - 44cals

8.30am coffee w 1/2 cup milk - 73 cals

Total breakfast calories = 498
This could be a bit in accurate because i didn’t weigh the eggs or tomatoes but i am certain the egg is small and the tomato is medium.

Its nice to have something different now and again. I'm baulking about porridge without sugar and honey on it. I can eat it and find it ok but i can't put my fruit on it as i do with my raw oats and i think its just not quite yummy enough to warrant it at this point. I really don't want to put honey on it. I used to put a dessertspoon - a rounded one - of honey or sugar on my porridge and i know i couldn't be satisfied with a level teaspoon.

So when all is said and done, i think its better to eat raw oats or an alternative breakfast. Today's was sooooooooooo yummy. Two hours to lunch and i haven't don't a second's work.

I am in trouble with my work. Time is running out and there's so much to do. But f*ck pushing sprinklers into a tiny hole is really hard. And i have so many to do. And, its a bit hot. And, and, and

I need to shake myself up in the mornings a bit more. Maybe i need to try to do some work BEFORE breakfast. I mean, i woke up before dawn this morning but what have i done?

...NADA!

Oops, i read the bread packet and had to adjust the bread up. Still 500 calories for one of my three meals is ok. I will need to reduce my other meals a bit i think though not much its not even 100 more than my usual breakfast.

I think i will calorie count all today's food.

I'm having a craving for my bi-daily walk. Yesterday i had it too at about this time but by the afternoon rolled around it was gone. Today is my walk day so i think i will go out now before lunch. Cause i hope to do some work this afternoon.

I think i might also run. As i am going off in 10 days, any extra cardio and muscle fitness will really help me. I think i have about 3500 km to ride in two months. That would be ok if i didn't want to stop every now and then to enjoy the sights and stuff. So i do need to be in good form right from the start this time. This might be my most demanding tour yet, unless the damn bike packs up and I can't fix it. My last trip in oz, this happened about 400km before the end. I wasn't too disappointed at that time because i was feeling pretty tired out after six weeks on the road. But as a result of that, i missed a lot of sights.

Yep so off i go to put on my runners... :auto:
