If you are only allowed to give one advice on weight loss, what would it be?

Mine : Eat and exercise HARD.

Anyone wants to join in?

Eat real foods in reasonable quantities.

In other words, skip the packaged, processed, and chemical filled junk. Skip the diet foods. Eat fruit, veggies, meat, whole grains, and healthy fats. And eat less of it.

Educate yourself/learn:
I always tell people to read, read and read some more. You need to understand the how and why of weightloss. If you educate yourself you have a great foundation and are giving yourself that much more of a chance to succeed.

My advice is this...and only b/c I've experienced it myself...there WILL be a day or week, that you are just in this "diet/lifestyle change" funk. You just DO NOT think you have it in you. But just know..really KNOW that its a PHASE..it will pass and you will move on..do not give up on your goals just b/c your in a bad mood.

I'm saying this b/c at one point I had lost over 30 pds and I was looking really good...same thing happened to my hubby...one day you get up and think "i can't do this anymore..." and you sit down and binge. Next thing I knew I had gained all the weight back PLUS another 30 or so. Just don't let one days bad mood turn into a week or a month, or a year...dust yourself off and MOVE ON!!

If you are big like I was - do not believe people that tell you that you have to walk briskly for it to be of benefit. I couldnt do anything briskly back then. Any walking is of major benefit.

like anything -brisk is in the eye of the brisker...

what's a moderate pace for one.. is a slow crawl for another... is a marathon for another... Don't worry about what other's are doing... focus on yourself and your own pace...

Yes..

I agree with you about the walking briskly (or not). I read that each of us has our own stride length for one thing and the weight we each carry is different. My stride is short and I am very heavy, so my walking will be slower, but I still get the exercise either way.

one thing?

I think the one thing that keeps popping into my head is water... Change all beverages possible for water. Let the coffee and tea and sodas be a once in a while thing. That water is going help with so many aspects, especially with being very overweight (like I am). The more I drink, the less my joints and back hurt.
