i weigh 500lbs and i am new

i am dedicated and you guys are awsome my only fear is i love food so when i allow myself any food it is hard to stop...eating more might hurt me cuz i tempt myself more....i dunno

The only way you don't lose weight is if you eat calories equal to or greater than what your body needs. I have the feeling that you eat far more than you realize. You might mindlessly eat and forget about it. I've seen it many, many times.

Or, in response to some emotional loop, you'll binge ridiculously and write it off the next day completely forgetting about it. The thing is, your body doesn't forget it.

Eating 3500 calories per day and not letting yourself go above that for any reason should be doable for you.

We can optimize the diet to better satiate you too.

For instance, protein and fiber are both nutrients that have been shown to satiate better than others. Right now your diet is almost void of them, so no wonder you gorge. You need to clean the cupboards of all your 'trigger' foods that you tend to overindulge in.

Processed crap is easy, but it's also low in nutrient density and high and calorie density. It's also not filling and often times this is a matter of addiction I believe. Once you start, it's hard to stop.

Abstinence. Get used to it.

If you feel the need to gorge, replace those crap options with high nutrient density, low calorie foods like fibrous veggies. These things you can eat almost limitless amounts of and not worry about going over your caloric needs.

Before you start worrying about this stuff though, you need to right your mind.

makes alot of sense...an awful lot of since i am gunna try to sit down with my trainer who i think i failed to mention is just a really good friend of mine who does not charge me money lol....but i need to figure some things out because you right i am not gunna eat just 1000 calories a day for the rest of my life.....

I suggest printing out the last two posts I made to you and sharing them with your friend.

It's great that he cares about you and he has helped you get to a point where you are committed to losing this weight. In fairness though, he's a bit out of his league when it comes to the actual guidelines you should be following.

Maybe my last two posts can shed some light on the situation for him so he can improve his source of accountability and support he provides to you.

Woo HOO!~ You can do it :)Keep us posted:)

Another thing that can help you get started is to keep a notebook and write down all the things you eat.. Try it for a week or two so you can really evaluate whats going on.. I know when I started writing things down I realized I was eating WAY more than I thought I was.. and sometimes I wasnt eating enough...

How about adding some whey protein shakes? You dont seem to have much protein in your diet, and I find they are very filling and you feel GOOD (full) on them. You can get the protein powder at any vitamin store. High protein diets are known to burn the most calories out of any macronutrient diet (more than eating the same number of calories in mostly carbs). It seems to be helping me and I've been on a plateau for ages now.

I tend to agree with protein shakes. To be honest though, b/c of the low nutrient density of this particular diet, I'd suggest turning to whole foods that provide high protein before protein shakes.

I say this not only b/c of the low nutrient density he has going on, but also the low calories. A serving of chicken is going to have more calories than a scoop of protein powder.

tell me more

Here's a list of some fibrous veggies:

Alfalfa Sprouts
Artichoke Hearts
Arugula
Asparagus
Bamboo Shoots
Bean Sprouts
Beet Greens
Bock Choy
Broccoli
Brussels Sprouts
Cabbage
Cauliflower
Celery
Celery Root
Chard
Chicory
Chives
Collard Greens
Cucumber
Dandelion Greens
Eggplant
Endive
Escarole
Fennel
Hearts of Palm
Jicama
Kale
Kohlrabi
Leeks
Lettuce
Mache
Millie lettuce
Mushrooms
Okra
Onion
Parsley
Peppers
Pumpkin
Radicchio
Radishes
Rhubarb
Sauerkraut
Scallions
Snow Pea Pods
Sorrel
Spaghetti Squash
Spinach
String beans
Summer Squash
Turnips
Water Chestnuts
Wax beans
Zucchini

These things are high in nutrient density and low in calories relatively speaking. They'll fill you up and stretch your stomach sending the 'fed signal' to the brain without adding a ton of calories to your intake.

so eat solid food with more calories instead of a shake with more protien

i am beggining to understand guys really but you have to understand this is like i was brought up in one religion only to be told later in life that its wrong and this other religion is right....i have been strict on this diet for 9 months and seen progress i have seen it work so now to rearrange my process is throwing me off a little

Yes, for now. Shakes don't have "more protein."

They're just an easy form of protein. I think you should worry about the basics and getting a solid grasp on core nutrition principles before you worry about spending money on supplements.

Are you going to print out what I said above and review it with your friend?

Understandably.

It seems as if you think in extreme shades of black and white. That would explain why you went all the way up to 750 lbs and now you're starving yourself down the road of weight loss.

The problem is, extremes are often the wrong parts of the spectrum you want to be. Life is about the shades of gray and you need to let go of the on/off, wrong/right, either/or mentality.

You're not signing any contracts here. Hear us out. If it turns out we were right, great, you learned something new and can now lead this lifestyle much more comfortably and be confident in the fact that you will most likely retain your weight loss.

If we're wrong, then you can go right back to what you were doing if you choose to.

Starvation diets don't work. Are you telling me you've never heard such a statement?

Why is he so hung up on keeping you at 1000 calories per day?

His "theory" completely negates the fact that our bodies are not machines and the sort of toll starvation dieting and rapid weight loss can take on the human body isn't worth getting there faster.

Tell your buddy it's not a race. You aren't planning on simply getting to Houston fast and racing back 'home.'

You want a permanent move.

ok so lets say i make my drastic change tomorrow first thing in the morning....how do i start my day here is how it normally goes

4:30 am wake up go to gym from 5 to 5:45 treadmill hardcore till at least 400 calories are burned if not 650 then breakfast maybe cereal maybe 2 chkn breast and egg white scrambled then home by 6:30 am

shower dress get to work....from 7 am to 3 pm work non stop (im in sales but have to pull my own stock like fuel tanks and stuff....good labor) 3 head to gym burn off another 300 calories and eat lunch....usually a buffet as much cabbage and steamed broccoli as i want and salad and nice chucnk of fish or chicken breast

home by 4:30 pm.....take nap, wake up at 7 or 8 get house stuff done and get in bed by 11 do all over again at 4

if my breakfast is large (300 calories) then my lunch is small...if my breakfast is small (150 cals) my lunch is a mountain of veggies
