i weigh 500lbs and i am new

ok so lets say i make my drastic change tomorrow first thing in the morning....how do i start my day here is how it normally goes

4:30 am wake up go to gym from 5 to 5:45 treadmill hardcore till at least 400 calories are burned if not 650 then breakfast maybe cereal maybe 2 chkn breast and egg white scrambled then home by 6:30 am

shower dress get to work....from 7 am to 3 pm work non stop (im in sales but have to pull my own stock like fuel tanks and stuff....good labor) 3 head to gym burn off another 300 calories and eat lunch....usually a buffet as much cabbage and steamed broccoli as i want and salad and nice chucnk of fish or chicken breast

home by 4:30 pm.....take nap, wake up at 7 or 8 get house stuff done and get in bed by 11 do all over again at 4

if my breakfast is large (300 calories) then my lunch is small...if my breakfast is small (150 cals) my lunch is a mountain of veggies

Where did all this meat come from? You didn't say you were eating that originally. Or are you saying this is what you are thinking about doing?

i know in a pm i told you i might have to learn the hard way....its just that i am afraid to try...i am afraid i will gain my weight back and trigger a major eating disorder in my life....can you imagine a 500 pound bollemic or annorexic (how ever you spell it)

Actually I can. Bulimia is closely tied to food addiction.

You simply need to learn ways to have power over food instead of allowing food to have power over you.

Food is a necessity of life and we are biologically wired to be hungry for it. It's up to you to decide whether you will eat foods that help blunt your hunger and fill you up without adding boat loads of calories, which is most likely the stuff you aren't addicted to.

Or you keep trigger foods in the house and live a life of slavery to the foods you can't control yourself around.

sorry yeah the cereal diet that i was on lol was just that one day that i ate nothing but cereal...but yesterday i increased my calories and GAINED 1 pound

for breakfast yesterday i had 4 egg whites with veggies

went to work and didnt eat all day till three and at 3... at three i ate about 4 cups of steamed broccoli and 4 small fillets of talapia and about 1 cup of chicken breast

then when i got home i ate 2 cups of raisin bran with diluted skim milk (so basically water milk)

then about 8 o clock another 2 cups of raisin bran and water milk

so i realize that i had about 1200 to 1500 calories right?

and i GAINED weight 1 pound.....i have seen this happen before in my journey.....

i did talk to my trainer and told him that steve was a well respected friend of mine and his concerns were honest so i could let him know it wasnt just some yahoo with an opinion.....

i remember now the reason he put me on the 1000 calorie diet, it was because i came out of the hospital with the doctors saying i was supposed to be dead so he put me on a strict diet because i need to loose weight and fast or i will die he said to me that once we shed enough weight we can learn how to eat MORE with out gaining weight but for now i need to learn what food is good and bad and train my self to eat healthy

Tell your buddy it's not a race. You aren't planning on simply getting to Houston fast and racing back 'home.'

You want a permanent move.
the best way I've described this (just call me the high priestess of analogies)

You are out in the middle of nowhere and your car breaks down and you have to get home.

you can run.. getting tehre twice as fast but when you get there you will be exhausted and unable to do anything but sleep
you can walk - it willt ake you longer but you'll be refreshed and able to function when you get there...

i think, and correct me if you dont agree, that once i get to about 350 i can start increasing and learning how to introduce more food and loose wieght but for now i was told that if i dont do something drastic then i would die....this is my drastic change i am a desperate man in a desperate fight for his life therefore am taking desperate measures.....thats the way it was explained to me and i do agree with it

You said above that you ate 1200-1500 calories and the scale indicated you gained a pound. It takes approx. 3500 calories for your body to compose 1 pound of fat, therefore the difference you saw on the scale was a normal everyday fluctuation.

If you want to increase your calories I suggest putting the scale away for the next two weeks. It may fluctuate up because you have more food / water in your body, but this is NOT a weight gain. Allow your body to readjust and then weigh yourself again. It's never a good idea to LIVE by the scale and especially not a good idea to feel discouraged or unhappy because the number went up by one pound on one random day.

If you are truly adamant about staying at the 1000 mark for calories, PLEASE PLEASE go see a doctor and only continue under medical supervision. All of us here want you to be healthy and we would love to see you succeed. You say you lost a lot of weight before and I'm curious to know 1. how did you lose it? 2. why do you think you gained it back?

Best of luck :)

I have noticed just from TV and stuff (meaning: limited knowledge here) that doctors seem to put very obese people on very strict diets just to quickly get the weight off in order to save the person from possible death. The plan could be different for a 750 lb person than a 300 lb person. Maybe a medical profession should be weighing in on how many calories you're supposed be getting at your weight? He/she may think it needs to happen as quickly as possible just to ease up the body. I dunno...

1. You need to be more in touch with your calorie intake. Purchase yourself a food scale and monitor portion controls by using that. Sign yourself up to and start tracking.

We need to get to the bottom of what you're really taking in.

2. 1 pound of?

Someone your size can hold an absolute shit ton of water. You're in this for fat loss. Don't be one of those people who fear small fluctuations on the scale. Concern yourself with the longer term trends.

i remember now the reason he put me on the 1000 calorie diet, it was because i came out of the hospital with the doctors saying i was supposed to be dead so he put me on a strict diet

There's strict.

Then there's stupid.

Note the distinction.

because i need to loose weight and fast or i will die

He isn't helping the cause with the diet he had you on.

he said to me that once we shed enough weight we can learn how to eat MORE

Have him explain why 1000 calories is necessary when you could be losing a good portion of weight each month taking in something like 2500-3500 calories per day.

Have him also explain why, if he's going to keep things ludicrously rigid, does your nutrition need to be so terrible.

with out gaining weight but for now i need to learn what food is good and bad

Food isn't inherently good or bad on it's own. Sure, some is healthier (meaning more nutritious) than others.

But fat is gained or lost in response to eating more or less calories than your body requires, respectively.

Right... I noted this previously. Although more often than not the strict diet is in place so they can more 'safely' do gastric bypass surgery.

Suffice it to say this guy can go on a strict diet.

That said...

There's strict than there's stupid.

The more strict one is, the more stress you're placing on the body, the more important proper/adequate nutrition becomes.

And 2000 calories is strict in relation to someone maintenance calories at his size. Shit, so is 3000.

see thats just it, we/I am teribly afraid that i cannot loose weight eating that much i need a n example steve and btw thank God your on the past 3 hours were the longest ones in my life lol....but if you could according to the normal schedule i showed you earlier with times of everything i do..... can you map out a day for me with foods i should eat and what times or how often i can eat i mean we are talking about tripleing my intake

Look, in history there's never been a case where metabolism is so blunted. It simply isn't possible. You could be hypo in the thyroid department but even then you're not going to see where a 500 lb guy gains fat eating 2000 calories.

Calories are a measure of energy, right?

Fat is a storage depot for energy that you intake in excess of your body's needs.

If someone your size needs 5000+ calories, how do you propose eating 2000 or 3000 calories is going to lead to the storage of fat?

I don't think that would be the right thing to do at all. I can only help shine some light on how to go about this logically. There's no specific plan or foods that when combined at the right times leads to magical results.

It's simply a matter of eating nutritionally balanced foods that total calories less than your body needs.

You don't have to jump right up to 3000. You can slowly ramp up over a month or so if you'd prefer.

Can I make a suggestion? Could you try honestly logging a typical day's worth of eating before your diet? List a normal days food and add up the calories. This may help you figure out what amount of food causes weight gain for you and how high you can go while still losing quickly enough.

Wow, that's a great suggestion!

What exactly are you giving a try?

more calorie intake thats what i need right? ok

breakfast egg white omlette with veggies est. 300 calories

lunch chef salad from Jason's Deli no dressing just salsa 590 calories

2cups grilled chopped chicken breast 146.7 calories

puts me at 1036.7 calories for the day

after i get off work i will have 2 cups special k cereal with water milk :D

should put me at 1336.7 calories for the day!

I see that. I was asking you to calculate WHAT YOU ATE BEFORE YOU STARTED DIETING.

before i started dieting i was bringing in any where from 10k to 15k in calories a day there is no way to account for sure because i would eat what ever and when ever....oh and congrats your the only person to offend me on the site so far
