Hello people!

I've been lurking around this forum for a few weeks now, getting tips here and there. But today, I have decided to join all of yous. I figured that moral support is what I need most to succeed in this weight loss journey. And the lot of you seem pretty friendly and offer advices like you really know what you're talking about. :D i'm pretty new at this so any encouragements and thoughts are more than welcomed :beerchug:

I'm 24 years old female, have been going to the gym 5 days a week, and have been watching my calories intake for 3 weeks now. Starting weight: 151.8 lbs and current weight is still the same. Because of this, I'm getting a bit discouraged. I know i know, I gotta focus more on how my clothes fit me and not watch the scales too closely, but it's just frustrating to not see the numbers budge at all!

On the plus side though, i'm building muscles in my arms and thighs, so maybe that explains it? I mean, with muscle being heavier than fat? Right? Riiiiight? It's either that or i've been doing it wrong

The day before yesterday was my first weigh in, and I was floored. Didn't take it too well and I binged to drown the frustration. However, today I am determined to do what it takes and pick up where i left off and continue the workouts. Hopefully, with this forum's support, I'll learn how to curb my urge to eat unhealthily and educate myself in all the tips and tricks of successful weight loss.

I'm so pumped for being here. Finally, questions can be answered! yay!

So yeah, I wanna say thanks in advance for helping me change my life.

Oh and really sorry for the bucketful of grammatical errors in this post. English is not my first language. :blush5:

To go out on a limb...

Welcome to the forum!

Moral support is available in abundance here so take all that you can. I know it is easier said than done some days but don't trust the scale to show you actual results. Results come from how you look and feel to yourself. The number on that scale will go down if you stay on track. When you feel like binging come binge on support, sounds better doesn't it? Doesn't leave you feeling guilty the next day!

If English is honestly not your first language you shouldn't apologize, you seem to have a pretty firm command on it.

Cheers and welcome!

Welcome to the forum.

It is easy to feel discouraged when you work really hard and do not see a reward at the scales.

There could be a number of reasons why your weight has not gone down. The thing is that when you get on the scales the reading covers such things as the food that you have eaten and whatever liquid that you have been drinking. The toilet / eating situation makes an enormous difference. That is why it is always best to weigh at a comparable time of day.

Then there are such things as water retention. Many women find that they gain weight around the time of a period.... Over the past 28 months that has tended to cause a rise for me across about 12 days every month.... - and the rise can be of the order of 3 to 4 pounds!!!!

On top of that - there can be a rise from such things as the amount of sodium in your diet - how much salt is in food. Remember - a lot of things contain sodium. It occurs naturally in some foods - and is in a lot of packaged foods and tins. It is not just the salt that you add in the cooking or at the table.

A lot of us here find that it is a good idea to take measurements every month. Sometimes you do not see much of a change with the scales and a better change with the measurements and vice versa. It is nice to see an improvement with one or the other. Changes in clothes sizes can provide great motivation. Some people like to keep a record in photographs too.

Your binge was not a good move - but you knew that already - and we all make less good moves at times. The key thing is to accept that it did not help - forgive yourself - and pick up where you left off. Unfortunately those binge calories will not help your weight loss for this week - but you will work them off soon enough.

You say that you have been going to the gym and are building muscles in your arms and thighs. I assume that you have spoken to the staff at the gym and told them of your weight loss aspirations. Are you doing any work on the treadmill, exercise cycle etc - or simply using the weight lifting machines? I found walking to be very beneficial for my weightloss. I now have a lovely gym quality treadmill in my living room at home!!!

Good luck with your project.

Thanks Timmy! I'm now on my 5th week going to the gym and I have to say that I have never stayed on a weightloss plan for as long as this. Its no easy feat for a couch potato like me :p

I'd like to update that the number on the scale has finally moved! :hurray: Not by much but I'm ecstatic! I took your advice; binging on this forum's support helps big time. I stayed on that damn treadmill and nearly killed myself but true enough, the weight has finally gone down. Wooot!

Omega, you definitely shed some light on why the numbers on the scale didn't budge before. It was my time of the month and after reading your post, I felt relieved and breathed a little easier.

Plus, you're right. I'm seeing massive improvements on my body; my curves are getting more defined, my ass finally fit into that jeans that had been collecting dust at the back of my closet (albeit its still pretty damn tight ). But all in all, I'm pumped. Something is better than nothing so I can't complain.

I didn't discuss my wight goals with the gym staff because there isn't any. Staffs, i mean. It's a club house gym of my condo, so no one is watching over us, we just hop on the equipments with our fingers crossed, hoping to make a difference :p. And yeah, i do my sets on the weights and then go on the treadmill. I HATE the treadmill but at the same time, I wanna take it home with me. I guess that is a natural feeling to have towards the equipment that is helping with the weightloss eh.

:cheers2:
