i read this somewhere... is this true??

i read somewhere that exercising twice a day gives u the benefits of exercising once a day for three months... IN THREE WEEKS!! and apparently, one of these sessions need not even be a full-fledged hour-long workout, a short 10minute intense aerobic session(like skipping, jogging...) is perfect. could this be true?

i read it in the fitness page of a reputed local newspaper, so it can't be bull****. but it does sound too good to be true... so... any theories?

Idk if I necessarily believe that. Anywhere between 20-60 minutes a day is what I think is recommended (I prefer 30 min a day) no matter how you split it up... 2 x 15 min sessions, 6 x 5 min sessions... it's going to be the same or just as effective as a straight 30 min session. IMO

I have not read anything like that before but I do try to do 2 times a day about 2-3 times a week but it's harsh on the body especially on a calorie restriction diet. If I am active, I am not that hunger but at night time, it's really bad.

If you do try to do 2 times a day, I'd suggest A LOT of stretching and Banana for potassium.

As for the article, I can see some validity in it IF you are starting out training or returning back from a prolong break. You are kick starting your body and system back into place. Now, if you have been training hard for over 3 months, I'd doubt this will 3 week program will leap you another 3 months though. I guess it depends on your body condition and how close you are to optimal to make this work.

Nope. Untrue.

It depends.

Athlete training programs often include 2- or 3-a-day workouts over a period of several weeks, with great success. These types of training cycles normally don't last longer than a couple weeks, and are implemented in order to affect large sport-specific training responses just prior to a short rest period leading up to the actual competative season. Typically, moving to a multi-workout day shouldn't happen until an individual has already been moderately training for a period of time. Workouts are almost always full length though. Short bouts of activity aren't really going to help, even if it is your second workout of the day.

It's a slippery slope here though. To go to a multi-workout per day schedule, you need to have a structured program, so that you are able to track exactly what you are working and when. A good aid to this would be a true sport-specific training program, as it gives overall direction with specific benchmarks, if you are unable to set goals yourself. This goes hand in hand with being completely aware of your body and its response to exercise, particularly regarding overtraining. If you move to such a program, you must be keenly aware to your body's responses. If you start to feel that your body is no longer adapting and in fact regressing, from a physical, emotional, and energy standpoint, then you need to back off from the excessive training and give yourself a chance to recuperate.
