I ran 5K, can you believe it?

I was in the gym today lifting. There was a lady on the treadmill and she was quite heavy, I'm guessing 200 lbs or so. But, she was running so smoothly that it caught my eye.

I finished up my workout and jumped on the treadmill next to her. I didn't say a word but peeked at her speed and she was cruising around at a comfortable 4.5 mph. But, she looked sooooo comfortable. Well, I've heard FF talk about controlling your speed when running. But, I actually had to see it in action for it to sink in.

So, I walked for the 1st three minutes at 3mph then I kicked it up to 5mph for starters. This felt really slow and almost difficult. So, I kicked it up a bit more to 5.5 mph and it felt great! I had been running at 6mph recently and thought I was doing OK but this felt so much better. I felt like I could run forever. So, I decided I was going to do 5K and I DID IT! I even took into account my walking and didn't count that in. My total time walking plus the 5k running was right at 37:30. Really slow but it's a starting point. I went ahead and cooled down and finished with a total time of 45 minutes. I know 5k is a walk in the park for many of you but it's a great stepping stone for me!!!

Nice going Greg!

WOW! Great achievement Greg. I'm proud of you. I could never run 5km. I can't even run 1km ... because I sprint. I can't pace myself.

Opposite with me i only can pace myself...hah. I can last really long in long distance but when it comes to short im really bad :sad3:

And nice one GT! Keep going and you may run 10ks!

My goal is to actually run a 5K scheduled for December 20th. It's actually supposed to be one of the more difficult ones around. There is a steep hill to tackle but I've got the confidence now that with continued training I can conquer it. Hopefully it won't be 20 degrees outside.

ILM, you are full of it. With your dedication to so many things, you could do it. Ok, I dare you to do it. 5K, after everything else you've accomplished, it should be a breeze for you. Hey, is that you in your avatar? HOT!

Marko, you are so right about the sense of accomplishment. Before yesterday I really didn't think I could run 5k. But, with the correct pace, it wasn't too difficult. I've got total confidence now that I can do it. Marko, is that you in your avatar? HOT!

212.5 lbs this morning. 27.5 gone, 22.5 to go. Thanks all, Greg

I'm not much of an endurance athlete. Plus my knees aren't so great. I'm more of a cyclist/rower now. Less impact on my poor bod :D

And yes, that's me in the avatar.

How about your previous avatar? Was that you and your bf? That was pretty cool too!

When does it start warming up again in Calgary?

My previous avatar was two women in black latex ;) Previous to that was a man's back with liquid latex running down it. Previous to that I think it was my pecs and delts ... I've got all those pics and then some posted on my profile. My BF would kill me if I posted a picture of him up here :violent: He doesn't mind body shots, but no face. He likes his anonymity ;)

As for when it starts warming up in Calgary, that depends on the year ... this year, summer never happened.

Usually we start getting nice weather in May, June is cold and rainy, and July and August are hot.

Calgary is beautiful in the winter, though, and we're very close to Banff and Lake Louise ;)

LOL, I wasn't implying that your bf is a girl. All I remember was the woman getting groped. I didn't pay attention to who was doing the groping.

Just got back from running through my folks neighborhood. I'm staying with them this week. Nice run, very controlled pace. Total distance 1.7 miles. Followed this up with a 1.5 mile walk with my 73 yo Mom, probably 3.5-4mph pace. She's fast! Total distance 3.2 miles.

Nope, not buying it at all. It was a rather interesting photo though!

I think that pic is extremely erotic/sensual. But that's probably because I like it so much, too ;)
