i need help with my work out... somethings not right

OK - you're finding a lot of reasons to say you can't...
If you want this - you have to start finding ways to say you CAN

Could your neighborhood really be so unsafe that jogging at 6:30 a.m. would be hugely dangerous? Seriously, where do you live? I used to live in California and I can't think of a place that would honestly be that bad... I'm not saying you're wrong, maybe you're right.

So about the video, do you have a garage? Or an outdoor area where you could plug something in?

well its not the whole neighborhood that is bad. there are some bad mexicans *no offense to any mexicans in here*, that live in here. some live down the street, then there are a few who live behind us. and cops have been called out here before, and they went to those guy's places.... plus they have pitbulls so thats not helping much.

but 5:00 a.m. running i think i could do. if i can somehow get up that early.

...and no i dont have a garage or outdoor area, i live in a mobilehome, there's only space for 2 cars and if we dont have a backyard.. or frontyard for that matter lol

:(

i know, i really do. which is why i want to do the 5:00 a.m. running which i have tried before, but i failed at getting up at those times. lol im a 16 year old teenager... its hard for us to get up that early or go to bed early.

maybe i can try tomorrow morning actually...

..............sorry for all the posts but i asked my mom if i can go out and run at 5:00 in the morning and she started yelling at me about how unsafe it is and how i'm still her responsibility and she will not let me and stupid shit like that :-/ so i cant even run she wont let me

Everyone here gave you great suggestions on what you need to do to continue seeing improvements, the rest is up to you. You need to ask yourself how bad you want it and if you want it bad enough to do what it takes to get there. I wish you all the luck!

i like that idea... its not the same as running though is it? it wont burn more calories?

Jump rope for 20 minutes straight sometime, and see how that feels for you. It's really very good exercise, it's not the same as running but cardio is cardio is cardio, right? As long as you get your heart rate up, you're doing it right.

What about a gym at your school? MDM asked that before. Also, maybe there's a local YMCA or rec center.

As for your eating... I understand how hard it can be to eat healthfully on a tight budget. But just say no to McDonalds! Almost anything is better than that. If fast food really is your best option (you're 16, you probably don't really know how to cook, it can be tough) then try the healthier stuff on offer. Subway, or a taco stand and pack in lots of veggies, or KFC with all the skin removed -- stuff like that. Do some googling and find out what your healthier fast food options are.

thank you for all the help everyone i DO appreciate it alot, but when i cant do some of the suggestions such as running in the morning because i have a bitch for a mom doesnt help out :(

im courious about the jump rope stuff though. would that really work the same as running? or not quite?

well like 5 months ago i would have got 5 hamburgers and a mcflurry, to limit myself to just 1 is something i think lol. but ya i also eat Arbys... its just lunch meat on some buns, with some cheese. not as bad as micky d's.

as for the gym thing. yes there is a local gym but membership is like 40 dollars a month, way out of my reach. and we cant use the gym at our school unless we're in Strong body. and nope no YMCA or rec center.

i'd much rather do the running since i know its healthier... ummm is running for like an hour and a half once a week better than doing it for like 30 minutes three times u think? i might can pull it off only on sunday's or saturdays

With regard to jumping rope: some cardio is better than others, but at the end of the day, what really matters is that you're getting your heart rate up and keeping it up. TRUST me, jumping rope gets your heart rate up. You've seen it in movies and on TV, right? People in gyms jumping rope and stuff to warm up for a workout?

Go to Toys-R-Us, pick up a jump rope for like $5, and give it a try! You'll find it's very, very challenging. I promise.

Running for an hour and a half one day per week is not better than running 3x per week, it's not as good.

Well, being a mom, I can ABSOLUTELY see her point...I wouldn't let my kid do it...

That being said, yes, jumping rope could work - I would do it longer then 20 minutes though - you want your heart rate up for at least 30 preferably 45 minutes.

I definitely see your point, you are trying to look at options, and the options we've thrown out are ones you can't use, but you need to look at these ideas as general options - what can you take from here and adapt to your situation?

well i think i might have some rope lying around the house... or i could use an old water hose. back in jr. high we had weighted jump ropes, at like 5lbs, those were torture and were more of a workout for your arms!

ummm how about running saturday mornings, sunday mornings, and jumping rope the rest of the week every morning? if i did that how long would it take to lose the love handles and my gut?

that's true, i like everyone's ideas so far, so thank you all for helping, i know it seems like its not getting me anywhere, but trust me it really is, more than you think.

i like what u said, how all these ideas i can take, then adapt them to my situation.

i have another quick question though. can doing the same workout for a long period time cause you to not lose any weight at all, or lose fat? i heard that u should change up your routine often

I've heard that you should change up your routine too - and I do that with (what little strength training I do) as well as with my cardio, but that's because I've been doing the same cardio for a long time - you don't have a long time before you reach your goals. Your new plan can last you through this.

thanks for the help. i figured i bugged you guys long enough. i'll try either finding some hose to use as a jump rope or go to walmart or toys r us tomorrow to get some. then i'll try making a chart so i can check all the foods im eating and calories im taking in.

and then i'll try to come to some sort of comprimise with my mom for running. maybe she'll let me do 6:00 a.m. lol

thanks again everyone i'll fill you in as i progress or if i need more help

No problem :) I hope you reach your goals - you CAN do it :)

You might want to check out or and input your food at either of those places - it would give you a really good idea what your diet needs.

You can always create a journal here in the diary section to help stay focused and motivated :)

Best wishes,

Luvzccr,
I am new too this forum also but I can try to help. I just finished my first semester in college where we studied nutrition and weightloss, which I got an A in. I can tell u that there is no such thing as "spot-reducing" as quoted in my book. Your body decides where to lose the fat....10 lbs in 2 months isnt that bad. Most experts recommend 1-2 pounds a week. Remember, slow weigt loss is the best weight loss. I would def keep exercising. Can u tell me what kind of foods you eat? That would help a lot!
