I need encouragement/motivation

wow 2

hi, we must've been posting at the same time.

you are looking great. dont lose anymore tho. too thin is as bad as too fat.
your determination is very awe inspiring. regarding the maintenance side of things.... i unfortunately cannot answer that as i still have to wrap my mind around it being a lifestyle change thing. look forward to seeing the other ppl responses.

take care
kurl :)

My question is did you guys who have reached your goal weight find it hard to maintain this weight? were you tempted to still 'diet'/count calories/weigh yourself all the time? or were you tempted in the other direction, to go back to your old ways of eating too much/excersing too little?
Hey there .. one thing that most diets don't recognize or assist with is that MAINTENANCE is a huge component of losing weight. Not a lot of places give a lot of support for Maintainers and those who have lost weight and are still dealing with the psychological ramifications of that.

Maintaining is, in some ways, a greater struggle than the weight loss itself. When you're losing weight you have the encouragement and motivation of seeing the scale go down and seeing the differences in your body to keep you going.

When you maintain, you do have to continue to watch what you eat and keep up with the exercise ... but the motivation of weight loss isn't always there.

I was talking about this in a thread on another forum recently:

I will always watch what I eat and log my food.
I will always exercise at least 3x a week.
I will always avoid junk food and processed food as much as possible.

You can't just go back to your "old" way of eating and expect to maintain the loss. Maintenance is for life - if you want to remain healthy and slim.

Photographs of me and my boyfriend are very rare.. photographs of me in general are cos I used to HATE having my photo taken.
I was comparing these two last night, and cant believe the difference in both are faces!
New Years Resolution - I'm going to brave having my photo taken more often. Hehe.

impressive. definitely not the same person.
wat is your exercise routine like ie how many hours a week on average??
and how many calories a day do you consume on average??

Hey Guys..
Me again.... Im coming to the end of my final year studying at university. Life has been very busy and stressful workwise recently and I have resorted to junk food and sitting in front of a computer doing assignments all day with no exercise and definately no gym sessions.
Consequently I have gained around 10lbs in the last couple of months and I feel so unhealthy and can see how much bigger I am again!
I am determined to loose the weight again before summer but need some motivation to get me out of this depressive/stressed/junk food cycle! so thought id start to post on here again as it helped me out big style last time!

(p.s. me and my boyfriend got engaged in feb:beating: and although i know he loves me no matter what, i feel really down that ive gained so much weight since his proposal!)

Hi Dani,

I'm sure those 10 pounds won't be sticking around!! I know you can push and you can lose them just as you did before.

Although my journey hasn't been as successful as yours, I'm stuck in my rut as well. Can I even call it a rut when I'm still in the same place....?

Heh anyway, you can do it lady! PUSH PUSH PUSH! Just remember how great it felt when you reached your goal to begin with!

Good luck and keep updating!

Hey... Its been a very tough 4 months for me...
I've had major body confidence issues and have became a little bit obsessed with how i look and how much i weigh. At one point I became very unhappy and started to re-assess my life. I decided to break off the engagement with my fiance and now we are just friends. I now need to focus on who I am as a person..

These 10lbs that I seem so caught up, i still want to loose before I go on holiday in 5 weeks time. That is mainly because I do not feel confident knowing that my holiday clothes are tight on me at the moment. Im going to try to eat healthier, cut down/out alcohol and increase my exercise once again, as lately i have been binge eating on ocassions, especially after consuming alcohol and have barely been to the gym at all!

I will be updating this to keep myself motivated, whether anybody replies or not! Hehe.
I shall also be weighing myself every Sunday in the hope that I can lose an average of 2lbs every week.
Thanx for listening :)
Wish me luck!

When I started reading your post I was going to say that you have to stop eating sweets altogether to stop craving them, but then as I read on I realized you were only slightly overweight at first and are pretty thin now so you can't have had that much of a problem with food to begin with. (When I was reading that you were eating tubs of icecream every night, I expected you weighed 300 pounds at least :p).

But if you really want to stop cravings, what works for sure is completely stopping eating sweets. I had a really big problem with sweets, like I was the person who would eat the whole cake until it was gone and would walk to the convenience store in the middle of the night to buy 5 chocolate bars to eat right away.

I stopped eating ALL sweets, the only sweet thing I use now is half a teaspoon of sugar in my tea. And I don't crave them. I can walk right by pastries and icecream and I don't feel the least bit tempted.

But I have done this before, and I know if I eat even a little bit I won't be able to stop. The key for me is treating food like an alcoholic might treat alcohol. I know that if I have even a little bit, I have a high chance of returning to my old habits. So I don't have even a little bit.

Thanx guys.
I weighed myself this morning and I have lost the 2 lbs I was hoping for!
I hope I can keep this going for the next 4 weeks!! :)

I motivated myself to go to the gym for 7am today! And I feel great and more suprisingly more awake than ever!
I stayed for 3 classes: BodyPump, Beginners Yoga, and BodyCombat.

I really hope I can lose another 2lbs this week to stay on target by increasing my excercise!

I shall be weighing myself next Sunday morning, which will be day 2 of ' that time of the month' that is my period. I hope that this will not affect my weight and show that I have gained/not lost anything as this may cause me to turn back to food and shy away from excercise!
What are girls experiences of weight and that TOM?

If I may ask, how much do you weigh in US pounds? What has your highest weight been and what has been the lowest?

From reading this, it sounds like your body responds to sugar by wanting more fairly quickly. If that assessment is correct...you may want to get your blood sugar tested with a glucose tolerance test to see if you are having extreme sugar variances due to insulin issues. It is called Hypoglycemia. Balancing the diet with a bit more protein and avoiding refined sugars and products made of such could be a good experiment for you.

The exercise of course is excellent.

Best of luck.

Great job! Don't get discouraged if your weight is up a bit at the start of your "time of the month." Mine usually is. Just check again the next week.

I weigh around 134lbs at the moment.
The heavest I remember being is about 168lbs and the lightest about 124lbs.

I am hoping to lose 8lbs so i i am 126lbs as that is my comfortable weight.

I went to the doctors with many symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and have had all kinds of blood tests, one of which was linked with glucose. All the results were fine except my vitamin B12 was very low because I dont eat much animal product. I am now on vitamin tablets to rectify this..

IBS has made my confidence drop even lower. I constantly feel like my tummy is bloated and often have a red line through my belly button which I think looks disgusting and makes me look overweight. :(

I am trying to cut back on certain foods and drinks that appear to affect my IBS but do not want to eliminate too many from my diet.

You are very close...you can do it. 136 though is not too bad...you are going to be fine. Stick to it...eat healthy and exercise. Best of luck

First off, good job on the weight you've already lost! :)
Give yourself a good pat on the back... ooops, maybe a pat on the shoulder is more realistic! :)

My thing about food is, if I know I can't eat it -- I don't buy it! Chips, soda, pizza, ice cream... but I understand that sometimes it's beyond our control like if there's a party, with all the not so healthy food around... it boils down to self control. I usually just get 1 slice to take out the craving, then move on to healthier stuff. Chew slower, drink water in between bites, it will make you full faster =)

Keep up the good work! Stay fit! =)

if I weigh 132lbs or less tomorrow morning I am going to treat myself to 2 dvd's. I like to chose something such as dvds, music or clothes as motivation/reward instead of cake! hehe. I am going to try to not be too dissappointed if there is no weight loss though, because it could be linked to it being this TOM.

I am now mostly concerned about how fat and flabby my stomach is in comparison to the rest of my body. At the gym i struggle with abdnominal exercises as i seem to, for example, use my neck and shoulders to 'crunch' instead of pulling myself up by the abs, as maybe they are not strong enough? As i consequence I do not pull myself up far enough, and end up hurting my neck/feeling sick... Does anyone have any tips for me here?

*Excited and scared about tomorrows weigh in* - im so used to weighing myself a few times every day that I think it is really doing me good, to weigh myself only once a week at the same time.
