I need diet help

Hello everyone. My names Alley, i'm 21 and from Cornwall, England. Im 5'6" and weigh about 140 lbs. I know this isn't 'fat' but I'm not happy and would like to be slimmer (especially around my hips and thighs). My boyfriend has set up a weight training routine for me but it seems that diet is my problem. For the past two weeks i have eaten approx 1300 calories per day but still there seems to be no weight loss yet. Does anybody have any diet tips that could work for me? Any help appreciated :D

holy crap 1300 calories! thats a pretty big deficit in calories. the reason your not losing any weight, #1, your probably not doing cardio. and if you do cardio, eat more. #2, your body is probably going into starvation mode. 1300 is probably overshooting it, i bet your probably eating less than that. when you go into starvation mode, your bodies resting metabolic rate is lowered, so instead of it being a healthy 2000+ some odd calories, its like....1300....so eating 1300 day after day will just mantain yourself, in an unhealthy way.

A typical day in my diet:

I have a bowl of cereal with semi skimmed milk for breakfast
A small pear mid morning
Jacket potato with low fat cream cheese and a bowl of sugar free jelly for lunch
A packet of cracker breads for mid afternoon snack
Oven chips and a quorn burger for tea
maybe a bowl of cereal for supper

Any tips highly appreciated :D

You aren't eating nearly enough protein, nor enough calories. I don't have the time right now to post specific tips, but search around on the forums for some clean meal plans and whatnot. There are a lot of recent posts regarding diets.

okay, I have some time now.

What kind of cereal are you having for breakfast? Cereal alone is not a meal - you should complete it with egg whites (scrambled plain, omelette, hard-boiled, etc.) You ought to be eating a serving of protein with every meal - and you ought to be eating 5-7 meals per day.

The afore mentioned being said, a pear is not a meal; include some protein with this. YOu could have grilled chicken, eggs, canned tuna, etc.

A potato isn't lunch - you need protein. Again, have chicken, eggs, tuna, etc.

Crackers aren't a good option for someone looking to lose fat and I would advise you to cut them out of your diet. Have some more protein! And maybe some natural peanut butter or an ounce of raw nuts (almonds, walnuts)

I don't know what a quorn burger is.

Finally, again, a bowl of cereal is not a meal. Have some more protein; cottage cheese is a good choice for the evening.

Thanx for the advice about protein, i hadn't even thought about that. The cereal i usually have is porridge or cornflakes.
Quorn burgers are a fillet of meat replacement, for vegetarians (which I am not), in bread crumbs.
Today for lunch I had pasta and chicken so I'm now including protein.
I like your idea about nuts, another thing I didn't think of.
Thanx for your help. Please forward any more advice to me that you may have. :D

Glad we could help. Don't hesitate to ask anything else. And good luck with the eating adn the weight training!
