I need a shape

I am 5'6" and weigh 120 lbs. I guess I'm lucky because I don't have to work at keeping weight off.

My problem is shape.

Recently I kind of dead-ended and stopped working out, mostly because what I was doing wasn't changing anything and it got cold and I got lazy.

I run and do basic sit-ups and crunches,etc. but because I am originally from a small town I never had anyone to tell me how to do things to benefit ME or what I should be doing, for example there were no personal trainers.

I have no hips (i know many women out there are laughing that I find this a problem, but it can be just as bad to have no shape as it is to have too much shape) and my butt just sticks out in back. I don't know what exercises to do to flatten it. In my opinion, it looks odd for me to have no curves and then a little butt sticking out in back. It's not a fat thing, but a muscle toning thing I think.

I have a flat stomach, but not a fit stomach. I don't know what to do to move to the next level. I want to be able to see the muscles I can feel in there but no matter what I do along the lines of sit-ups, crunches, etc coupled with running I don't get any change.

What steps do I need to take? I am usually pretty self motivated, but lately I've been lazy and i think it's because the past couple years of what I have been doing hasn't brought on the change I wanted.

Suggestions?

Try some medicine ball crunches/sit-ups to add some extra resistance.

If you have access to a gym, find a few hip machines and a leg press to work your problem areas. That's about all I can offer, good luck!
 
You neeed strength training. When you do your exercises go heavier. Squats will help with your hip shape fairly quickly. Flutter kicks will help your hips as well as your abs. Do side leg extensions as well ( put a cable on your ankle, stand 90 degrees from it, and extend your leg to the side like a kick while keeping your knee straight). For stomach, do hanging leg raises with good form (meaning slow). Second try the decline bench with a medicine ball behind your head or with extended arms.
