Hello comrades!

It's been a verrrrry long time time since I've been on these website. Sadly, I'm not much thinner, but I've made some changes in my diet. The big one, is that I went vegan about a year and a half ago. And I absolutely love it. A friend of mine whose been vegan many years inspired me to make the change, and so I did (cold turkey). I don't look back on this, as it fulfills my beliefs in how health should be, and I'm not supporting the animal Holocaust. Unfortunately, I don't represent my beliefs physically. I'm what you call a junk food vegan, and yes, it's very easy to be fat on a vegan diet.

Now, I'm sure you're wondering why I'm back, and the reason is I'm embarking on a 60-day juice fast. Yes, all I will consume is vegetable and fruit juice. I know some will think it's bonkers, disagree, or think it's a great idea! I've invest a lot of time researching this, and this is going to be great. I'm not totally ignorant, I know it's going to be tough to make it through. But I need this to be my restart button, wipe the slate clean. Of course the weight loss is a bonus, but it's not the only reason.

I don't want to get technical, nor do I want to debate. I'd be happy if people want to participate in any way, but leave the negativity behind. I'm going to use this forum to express how I'm feeling each day, my state of mind, and any of progress. So tomorrow is that day! I've purchased top of the line juicer, and I've got a fridge full of fruit and veg! I really hope I can stick to this! Day 1 is tomorrow. Weeeeee

Day 1:

So, I'm going to document each day the day after. That way I can go through how my night was, and plus I can do this more completely while at work. So as I write this, I've already beginning day 2 (which I will write about on day 3!)

Yesterday was extremely rough. I know the first three days is the worst for detoxing. But boy, did I ever feel it. I guess I thought it wouldn't have it so bad since my diet is animal product free. Oh well - serves me right. I felt nauseous, headache all day, very low energy, and all around grumpy. Oh yah - and I was freaking hungry.

It was especially hard because yesterday was my jobs anniversary, so there was all sorts of delicious food. It took all my will power to not leap over the desks and snatch the cotton candy from my co-worker's hand.

Aside from all that, I'm glad I stayed strong. I'm still not used to green juice, reminds me of freshly squeezed grass that was just mowed, with a dash of swamp water for good measure. My gag reflex was put to good use.

If you're interested in what I juiced: Carrots, pears, apples, cantaloupe, parsley, kale, romaine, beet greens, celery, and grapefruit. I think that's all of it. I'd like to incorporate more greens, like Swiss chard and mustard greens. I'm really hoping I will grow to love the taste of green juice.

Anyways, I haven't weight my self. And to be honest, I don't think I want to. The scale can be just as much an enemy, as it can a friend.

Day 2:

The second day was much easier, thank god. I still felt lethargic, and had a sort of brain fog. I'm feeling the hunger pangs less sharply, which is a major plus. I'm really looking forward to the day when I'm feeling energetic and clear minded.

After day 3, the intial detox stops. The next day my body should begin secreting rancid oils and my colon should start cleansing. Sometimes I feel like Im not going to make it the full 60 days, but I have to realize that time will pass anyways. Do I want to spend it healthier and lighter?

I truly believe I am a food addict. In fact, I think all of us are on this forum. I think approaching this as addiction rehabilitation has its merits. Food addiction is the same as any other extreme addiction (like drugs or alcohol).

Anyways, I could go on for hours. But, I still have a headache, and I'm thinking a nap sounds great. Oh, I also walked 8KM. Booya.

Is it possible to incorporate exercise while detoxing? I've always been interested in this with a shorter duration but still not sure how it works with exercising.

@ slickzchik

Thanks for the encouragement. Always needed! That's why I started this journal - to help me stay accountable. Right now I'm pretty hungry.. booo :(

@ BeHappyWMe's

It's alright, but it's not recommended to doing anything intense. I'm just walking. The reason is the body is already adjusting to some radical changes, and the calories are precious. I definitely encourage you to try it. I did a 12 day juice detox, and I felt AMAZING. I can't wait to get back to that point.

Day 3:

Not terribly much to say this day. I didn't feel as near as groggy, as I spent the whole day watching the show, American Horror Story. I felt like I had cotton tongue all day, despite all the liquids I'm consuming. I think I may need to up my water intake. Aside from that, I'm staying strong and eagerly anticipating the end of each day.

P.S. Don't watch cooking shows on a juice fast. Like, ever. :ack2:

There is no way could manage this.
I have a friend who does a month detox once a year, 60 days must be hard.
Well done

Note: I have no knowledge what so ever on if detox is good or bad for you. I just can't do it as I don't have the will power

Day 4:

Murrraaaaarrrrrrrrr.... I'm seriously missing food. :ack2:

Boy oh boy. I knew this was going to be hard, but at the same time I thought I could easily do it. I'm not sure if it's the detox, but my morale and confidence are taking a hit. The hunger has subsided, but I feel empty. My cravings are going bonkers and I had a puddle of drool when a friend mentioned pizzaghetti (pizza with spaghetti on top).

That. Sounds. So. Amazing.

Thankfully, I'm stubborn, and didn't crack. As for my juicing, Day 4 was very decadent (lots of fruit juice). I'm going to incorporate more greens next week. I just wished they tasted better XC

Heya, Nostalgic! Yes, it's very hard. But the pros of doing one are tremendous, and it feels so darn good. I'm eagerly awaiting the period of lightness and clarity.

If only food didn't taste so good. :(

damn you food...

Good luck!

I just did a 600 calorie a day diet, on the fifth day I fainted lol, so for the past 10 days, (except yesterday) I have been having two 200 calorie meals replacements along with one healthy meal, and low calorie snacks. I wish that I coudve stuck to it 100%, as I would have had a collosal weight loss this month, but sadly, I just feel too awful.

Food just seems so much better when you are not eating. Had to mop up drool whenever I smelt anything cooking! Do you live alone?

@ overtherainbow

Nope - I don't live alone. But they don't really cook, so I'm not usually assailed by the smell of food (if that's what you mean).

It's very tough to not eat food when it's no longer an option. Kind a like something we take for granted. So while the cravings are intense, I view it as my kind of penance. I have to remember the years of abuse and addiction I've filled myself with. 60-days is a small amount of time compared to the rest of my life (happier and healthier). My body (and emotionally) expects to filled with food to the limit, usually with processed food and sweets.

Suddenly flipping to pure juice diet, rich in vitamins and minerals, is going to have it's consequences. If I can prove myself, then I know I can rewire my body and mind. And so it is hard, and might seem impossible for a lot of people, it's really a small price to pay for the abuse I've caused.

I couldn't even manage the 24 hour famine for charity as a teen,
Its where people sponsor you to detox and all the money goes to countries to feed kids.

Hello there, congratulations on having the willpower and determination required to do this. I can't imagine 60 days surviving only with juice. :willy_nilly:

My only question/concern is: (and I'm sorry if I'm being ignorant here) shouldn't that cause an important protein deficiency?

Again, I'm sorry if I'm being ignorant here.

Hello, AthalaRanger!

The question is not silly at all. In fact, I think it's a very important question. The idea of protein is greatly misconstrued, perpetuated by the meat industries that spend millions of dollars in advertising to convince us of this. The fact of the matter is that you don't need to supplement protein, nor do you have to eat animal products to get it. Ask yourself this... have you EVER heard of someone being hospitalized because of protein deficiency? It's simply does not exist.

As for your question, vegetables are packed with proteins. Fruits also contain protein, to a lesser degree. Check out this short article on the "protein myth" (Link was removed sorry, since it mentions some advertisement. Just Google protein myth. Lot's of stuff out there.

I have been vegan for going on two years, and I don't have protein deficiencies. My friend has been vegan since she was 16, and she is turning 47 this year, just had her blood work done and it's completely normal.

@ Nostalgic

You wont ever do it with that attitude!!!! (j/k)

It is SUPER hard, but it's worth it. Try it sometime! But start small. Try doing a 3-day. :p

Well, i have to admit that i wasn't aware of fruits and vegetables containing protein, so thanks for explaining that to me. :smash:

The idea of a 60 days juice fast may sound insane to others, but you have to be unreasonable to get unreasonable results!

Good luck on your journey, don't let those cravings stop you! :beerchug:
