I like beer...and bars

Based on recent events involving social drinking, here is my take.

Give up the partying for now and buckle down to lose the weight, chances are you won't miss drinking as much as you think and being fit feels 1000 times better than being drunk. This is a threshold moment for you on weight loss as far as prioritization goes here, because you have to seriously want it. If you can't give up something like beer it's going to be tough for you because it's tough journey.

As an added bonus when you are a fraction of your former weight you get drunk really fast if you do drink, so if that is your goal a few shots of whiskey will do the trick.

If I am drinking socially, and I do very rarely, I like to drink straight whiskey on the rocks. Preferably single malt, but a good vodka or whiskey will do. Glenmorangie single malt would have to be my top preference. You can mix hard liquor with coke zero if you can't hack it, but beware that stuff, I am totally against artificial sweeteners as well as caffeine so I avoid it. Hard liquor has the least amount of calories to do the job as compared to beer which is like a big bottle of bread. Bonus if you actually enjoy it too as I do with a good single malt.

I'm overweight and 19, and I love a drink.
However, I have limited what I drink because of my weight. All my friends go out every week, and they all stay slim despite eating crap and drinking an absolute ton! So I go out, maybe once a month, a little more if I have the money, and I drink vodka.
Gets me drunk quicker than say, an alcopop, and has so few calories compared.
If you feel the need to go out and drink, drink more sensibly. Maybe a sambuca with a water mixer? A strong alcohol, and a calorie free mixer.
Drunk in fewer drinks and fewer calories. Problem sort of solved :)

Hi, I'm in a similar situation to yours.
I'm young, have tons of friends, and while I dont in any way need alcohol to have fun and be social there are 'girls nights', camping trips, vacations and well alot of social drinking situations that crop up.

I've made the personal decisiont to stick to plan of calorie counting. My weightloss calorie goal is 1450cal. My weight maintenance goal is 2100cal. On days I know I will be going out to the bar I chose the 2100cal max. I limit this to once or twice a week. So at no point am I putting myself in the position where I'll be gaining weight.

When I'm out at the bar I make small sacrifices. Beer IS a waste of calories, but its nice to have something to slowly sip on so I go for the light stuff. If its one of those nights where I'd like to get a bit tipsy I switch to vodka soda. Soda is cal free (guilt free!) and Vodka is resonably low cal as well.

So yep thats my party-mix suggestion.

-decide what you're going to let yourself have ahead of time
-stick to the light beer and vodka soda (or gin soda or whatever) mix
-Decide ahead of time that the barfood (or post bar food) is absolutely off limits. Theres nothing worse than a drunk friedfood fest.

I've been doing this for 2 months and despite having an active social life have dropped 15 pounds.
