My one month mark isn't technically until Monday, but I'm so excited about this that I decided to share now.... as of this morning's gym experience, I have lost 21 pounds!!!!! My first mini-goal was to lose 20 within the first month (knowing that I would lose more in the beginning and then average about 10lb a month after that), so I've been busting my butt at the gym, staying within my calorie range without starving myself, and now I finally get to reep the rewards.. I'm excited for my official one month weigh in Monday morning to see if it's going to be even higher than 21! By the way- I am doing this completely on my own, no weight watchers or other diet program, no diet pills, no exercise books... just me and my support system of my boyfriend, a few friends, coworkers and relatives and all the awesome people on this site who have such amazing stories to share and give such great support! I'm just so excited to hit that first goal..... it makes it mentally easier to focus on what still lies ahead for me. Very, very happy day- depsite the miserable humidity outdoors!

Congratulations! I know where you're coming from, I've lost 110 pounds myself, with 35-40 to go. Keep at it and you will definitely get there. :)

:hurray: way to go. My 1st goal is 20lbs and Im at 17lbs right now..its been 7 1/2 weeks. I wish I could drop 20lbs in a month!

YOU ROCK! AND ROLL!!

I would be doing cartwheels in the hall if I lost 20 pounds in August, showing my panties and all!

I'm so proud of you!

thank you all for the added confidence boost. Let me tell you, those first 2 weeks were hard! I know 21 pounds in a month is amazing, and I'm not expecting to repeat that miracle.. now I'm planning on roughly 2-3 pounds per week for the next 4 months, then as I get under the 200lb range, 1-2 pounds per week. I'm such a science/math geek that I even plotted out an excel sheet, using 20 pound weight increments, to calculate how many calories I would need to burn in addition to my food calorie deficit in order to get the 2-3 pounds per week- how's that for a scientific approach to weight loss? hahahaha The best part is, I was able to have a piece of tira misu yesterday at a work lunch and all it will cost me is an extra 30 minutes on the treadmill this week- now that was totally worth it!!! :) I have a facial comparison pic for you guys to see at my first month- no full bodies yet.. The first one was a couple of months ago, the second is last Saturday when I reached 21 pounds lost. I can see the weight loss especialy in my cheeks.. it's great to finally be able to see a change, and every day my jeans feel looser, so happy, happy joy, joy!!! And you'll see in the bottom pic that my natural blonde hair color is finally making a comeback- I was an idiot and dyed it black... ha! I'll never do that again!!

thank you very much- I'm happy to report that as of this morning, it's now 23 pounds- I'm loving this, but I have to say that I'm busting my ass to see these results, so I hope this level of determination I have doesn't dwindle. I've also now lost over 3 inches on my thighs (each thigh), 2 inches from each upper arm, 2 1/2 inches from my bust (I've got plenty there to lose!), 2 1/2 inches from my waist, and 2 inches from each calf!!!! And I was able to have tira misu, pasta, mc donalds, etc this past week- proof that you don't need to starve yourself to lose weight as long as you can learn to balance things out and watch your calorie intake- good luck to everyone, including me, and thank you all so much for the continued encouragement!

Yay you! I'm trying so hard not to get extremist like I usually do. If I don't then I'll end up hermiting myself away in abject deprivation, get depressed, and start eating da bad tings . . .

You look so great in the pics! Pretty lady! Hotchachaaaa!

Really, congrats! Feel good. You so deserve it!

Those are excellent results! What a boost for you and great that you can still indulge a little too!

Wow good job! Perhaps you mentioned this before in another thread (me being apologetic if you've already answered this question), but how are you managing the whole 20 lbs/month weight loss? I myself am trying to lose 30 lbs and I would love (!) to lose 20 lbs in a month. What's your exercise regime like and is there a specific caloric intake that you observe just to drop the pounds quicker, or something? I appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks!

Hi exparrot-

In response to yuor question:

Here's what I did for those 1st four weeks (now I'm losing at a slower, normal rate of 2-3 pounds per week).

The first two weeks I only did calorie counting, with no exercise. I calculated my BMR (basal metabolic rate) through one of the many sites on the web, figured out how many calories my body needed every day to maintain my weight, and then subtracted from there to a lower daily calorie amount and I kept a journal to write down all the food I ate and how many calories each item had in it. There are lots of places on the web to find out calorie values of food- my lifesavers have been finding low calorie alternatives of food I love. I also make sure I drink at least 2 liters of water every day- very, very hard for me at first because I am a soda junkie! No more soda at all, unless it's a coke zero or diet coke once every 3 or 4 days- the sodium levels are so darn high. Then the 3rd week I started going to the gym- I've become a bit obsessed and go pretty much every day before work and do treadmill for 30-45 minutes and pick 3 days a week to add crunches, arm, leg & butt resistance exercises. So, in a nutshell, I lost the most weight those first two weeks, I think all the water helped. But you can actually calculate your daily calorie need, subtract from that for your diet and then calculate how many addiitonal calories you would need to burn each week through exercise to lose more weight (3500 cal= 1 pound). Having such a mathematical approach to all of it with the little formulas really works for me because I know exactly what to do each week to make goals. Also, don't forget to recalculate BMR every 20 pounds lost because it gets lower as you lose weight and you'll hit the dreaded "plateau" if you don't make changes to accommodate the new BMR. Hope that helps- sorry so long-winded!
