I get hungry alot at MidNight.. Advice please!

Fast Food

Perhaps you would benefit if you learn more about healthy cooking, and imposed a no fast food rule on yourself (or only allow yourself one per week). Your home cooking would be a lot healthier than the fast food, and because it takes more effort than simply picking up a phone, it will make sure that you REALLY are hungry before you go through the effort of preparing something.

My Two Cents

As a parent, may I ask what you are doin up that late on a school night?? ;)

Without knowing what your daily diet is it is hard to figure out where to start. If you drink soft drinks.. STOP drinking them. It will be hard at first but you can easily drop weight just by doing that. They are nothing but sugar that jump your insulin level up and just store in your body as fat. If you are getting hungry between 12-2pm I would find a protein shake preferably something called an MRP visit your local vitamin shop or look for them online. It is basically a meal in a cup. But they have the right balance of everything that you need without the fat and sugar. Smoothies are good but drink those early in the day. Even though they are made up of fruit they still sugar and carbs and they do not offer any real substance. If you are going to do soy, I would do some research on it. Are body does not absorb soy well because of the amino chains that make it up plus soy can be estrogenic for young boys. Also, try eating every
3-4 hours but make sure you are getting protein, carb and some good fat in your meals. This will help keep your metabolism going all day and control your insulin. As with anything this is just my opinion and you have to find what works for you. All the luck in your venture and it takes time so do not get upset if the weight does not come off as fast as you would like.

A couple people have already mentioned it, and I agree, but you shouldn't be awake at midnight, or even 2 in the morning.

The fact is, you're 16 years old (well, 17 now?). There is absolutely NO reason for you to be up that late. Sure, when I was 16 myself, I could argue that, but now that I'm 27 and I can "look back" on my life, I can honestly say that there is no reason to be up so late.

The reason you are getting hungry is simple:

You probably eat dinner anywhere between 5-7PM. If you stay up until midnight or 2AM, you are letting enough time pass to where you are naturally going to get hungry again. It's really not that hard to figure out.

Stop staying up so late and you'll solve your own problem.

What's the reasoning behind not having fruit and vegetables on the same plate? I've never heard of that.

If I'm up late, I get hungry too...obviously because dinner was before 8 o'clock. I normally try to not eat anything and just drink a glass or two of water, but if I have to give in I eat a piece of fruit or some yogurt w/ fruit and granola. It's better than McDonald's and it holds me over til morning. Like most others said, if you go to bed earlier, you won't have to worry about being hungry in the middle of the night.

Well, my dad used to claim that putting salad on the same plate with the meat & potatoes was carcinogenic... Although we all suspect that was mostly because he didn't like gravy on his salad ;)

Really though, I haven't heard of any research that really supports fruit & veggies being bad in the same serving. In fact, technically a tomato is a fruit, and avocado + tomato is considered to be a really healthy combination.

The avocado is a fruit too! :eek2:

LOL - oops! Okay, I failed my "Fruit or Vegetable!" course :D

Either way, I don't really think eating fruit & veggies at the same time is bad!

FAIL!!!

Nah, a lot of people think that an avocado is a vegetable, so don't worry. There is nothing wrong (nutritionally) with mixing fruits and vegetables. I just wouldn't mix a lot of fruits and vegetables myself, just because of how gross it could taste. Sure, some combos are good (pineapple/orange pepper, apple/onion, etc) but some of them have to be absolutely disgusting.

Like, grapes and mushrooms or something. Ick, I don't even know.

Yeah, eating them directly together could be gross. But having asparagus with your meal, and then fresh strawberries and blueberries for dessert would taste just fine. Or avocado (now that I know!) with your salad :D

You know what's weird?

At one of the restaurant's I used to work at, we had an asparagus appetizer which was grilled asparagus spears, wrapped in thinly sliced prosciutto, topped with a lemon/strawberry reduction. Mmm, it was good.

Oooh, that doesn't sound bad at all. Although I'd never have thought of adding strawberries in myself!

Asparagus + cream cheese + prosciutto is really tasty as well, although no fruit is involved :D

Pineapple isn't bad on otherwise veggie pizzas, either.

I love pineapple on pizza. I also love pineapple on skatewing, but that's a different story.

Yes im 17 now, you are right there is no reason.. but somehow i plan to sleep early, just things come up from no where... although im trying to, i got to try harder i guess.

Yea i eat dinner usually at 6-7..i dont eat alot, but i gain weight real fast for some reason.

i think you minimize eating food with high calories,, specially eating foods in the fast food. instead of eating those food you may foods with low calories and make a regular exercise but don't skip your meal..eat regularly but low calories of food..or you may eat some fruits veggies

---

Yea that should do it, i quit fast food ~_~..it really messes up my digestive system...plus causes alot of stomach pain.. really why suffer anymore? :p

Thanks for the advice

Wow, it's good to see that so many people have decided to rip into the kid for staying up late instead of offering advice. *facepalm*

*lol*....I was just thinking the same thing.

Different people have different sleeping patterns. Some are fine with 4 hours of sleep, others need 8.

I'm a night person. I have more energy at night than at any other time of the day, always have, probably always will. And I get hungry at night as well. I have learned to just ignore it, or have a cup of tea or a glass of water, which does the trick.

Why would I go to bed if I'm not tired though? I'd just lie in bed, unable to sleep, and still hungry. Where's the point?

Let the kid go to bed whenever he wants to. There was some good advice though, and it looks as if he already made the first steps into the right direction, like not ordering fast food at 1 am anymore. Good job! Keep up the good work! :)

Telling the kid to go to bed earlier is advice.

If you stay up late, you're going to get hungry. If you eat dinner at 6PM and stay awake until 2 in the morning, you're obviously going to get hungry again. It's not that hard to figure out.

True, but it's not advice that really helps...it's like saying 'I get headaches at midnight', and the advice is to go to sleep at 10 pm....*lol*...besides, doesn't really matter when he eats, but what he eats, so what does it matter when he goes to bed? He's old enough to decide himself I'd say.

But yeah, I agree. It's advice nonetheless.
