I find it upsetting...

Your first post was less than 12 hours ago? Give it a little time, I'm sure you'll get some feedback :)

agreed. Thats one of the things new people dont' understand...you have to people time to respond. Maybe they are short for time the 1st time they see your post but plan to post when they come back?

That's the thing, though. Someone else posted not 10 minutes after me, and they've got more views, and a few more responses. That, I think, is what bothered me more than anything. I feel like my first post was tl;dr, and that's what people are going to start expecting of me. :/

Heres the thing....no one here "knows you" theres no way that anyone can 'not like you'. If someone else has more views, then its just a coincidence I guess....or maybe somethign in their post struck a cord with the reader???

Relax. I've been here almost a year, am a mod, and if I start a diary I get almost no response :p

I recommend reading a lot of the diaries and posting comments - when someone sees that you have spent the time to read what they are going through and comment they will be more likely to come check out your diary. For myself I look for people that have similar interests or similar stats so we have something in common to write about. I don't have time to read every new comers diary and to be honest some people only last a couple weeks so I don't spend a lot of time on people until I know they are going to be around for the long haul - no one likes to get to know someone just for them to leave next week and never come back. You have to give it time and comment on others and give them time to comment on yours.

You're expecting way too much here. Not everybody is going to go running to your individual journal just because you posted it. There are literally hundreds upon hundreds (maybe even thousands) of journals on this website, so it's not uncommon for a brand new one to go unnoticed for a whole 10 minutes. I suggest that you just look at this from a realistic point of view and not an unreasonable one - the world doesn't revolve around you. I know that sounds harsh, but it's reality. Not every post you make is going to have an immediate response, or even a response at all. I'm willing to bet that most posts made on this forum go completely unnoticed. I'm willing to bet that only a small percentage of posts (especially ones made in journals) go relatively unnoticed. So, just relax and don't expect something so unreasonable.

Another thing - this isn't a popularity contest. Who cares if another person's journal has more readers or more responses than yours does? Seriously? Does it matter? No, it doesn't. Just because somebody doesn't post a response to your journal within 10 minutes doesn't mean that nobody likes you. It just means that nobody has posted a response yet. Maybe nobody saw it? Maybe nobody was online? Maybe people don't recognize your name (because you're new) and don't have much interest in reading a journal that belongs to somebody they aren't familiar with? It could be a number of things. So, don't just automatically assume that nobody likes you just because your journal doesn't flourish with activity within a half hour of its creation - and don't assume that people here don't care or don't take an interest in new members, because that couldn't be farther from the truth.

Exactly.

Hi

I'm new also, just joined yesterday. I started reading other people's posts and responded to a few. I think maybe that's the way to go. Show an interest and others will do the same to you.
Please don't say you're invisible here like you are in real life. While we all have moments when we don't feel very good about ourselves, I do believe nobody is invisible in the real world. There is something amazing about you I'm sure. Why don't you share some of your goals with us?
:):)

Exactly.

Little bit harsh....we all have our insecure moments. A very insensitive post.

:rereads my post:

Hmm, I don't know what you were reading, but I don't find anything insensitive about what I said. I didn't name call, I didn't insult anybody and I didn't say anything rude. I was merely being realistic. And, I know we all have different opinions on what is and isn't polite, but - in my opinion, I was being pretty polite there. Polite and realistic.

Since when is simply being realistic an insensitive thing to do?

Oh well. You can't please everyone, I guess.

Nope, just honest.
