TODAY'S WEIGHT: 260.6 pounds

Heya. I'm Tom. I'm a 25 year-old male.

I guess I'm another "resolutioner" posting a diary that by all accounts might be abandoned in a week or two... Heh. Oh well, let's give this a shot.

Well, this isn't my first a rodeo, unfortunately. A couple years back, I was just around 303 pounds. At that time I didn't have a job. I just up and decided one day to lose weight. I don't know how I summoned up the courage then, but I did. Managed to lose 75 pounds rather quickly, putting me at around 225. So what happened? Why did I get back up to over 260?

Well, I got a job. Two of them, actually.

Since then, I've kinda fallen off and have been unable to get back up. I sunk back into my old habits. I just can't find that inspiration that got me going last time.

I guess it's because I don't really have any support. I don't have any friends, really, and everyone in my family is too busy to care. Plus, I'm a huge dork that lives with his parents. I play video games and stuff. Not the Call of Duty "dudebro" games, but games like The Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, and Mario games. Also, I'm an extremely weird and awkward person, especially in person, so that kinda keeps me from connecting with other people.

Well, before anyone says anything, I don't think the video games are a problem. I don't play more than an hour or two if at all, unless I'm really into a new release, which is rare. And as of late, I've hardly played at all. I just do a lot of nothing on my time off, Mainly because I have no motivation to do anything but eat when I'm off work.

My problem is that I stress eat, and I'm particularly vulnerable after work.

So, I'm going to try some things to keep myself from over eating, and I'm going to kick out the sodas once again and fast food, and try getting back on the treadmill in the mornings. I'm going to do things like leave my debit card at home, so I'm not tempted to grab something to eat when I'm out.

I'll try to post at least once every day, so, let's see how this goes.

EDIT: Silly old me forgot to post my goal weight. I'm looking to hit about 170, which is a good weight for someone like me.

Welcome to the forum, There is a lot of support to help you to your goals on this forum.

Lots of us here feel weird and awkward, so stick around and let's be weird together! Getting back on the treadmill is great, just ease into it so you don't get burnt out. Looking forward to hearing more from you, Tom!

Welcome aboard Tom! You don't strike me as particularly weird and awkward, just maybe a touch too introspective (I can relate).

We're at such vastly different places in our lives (I'm old), it's hard to give too much advice. But ultimately losing weight comes down to burning more calories than you take in. So the easiest way to do that is the bog standard of "move more, eat less." It's probably best to do both, but you can pick which one you'd like to give a stronger emphasis to. I definitely did "eat less" for certain, but I feel like I also tilted more to the "move more" sort of thing.

The one good thing about being introspective is that it can help you better understand how to come up with something that will work specifically for you and your situation.

Step one sounds like coming up with something other than eating to unwind from work. There's nothing wrong with video games being one of them, and of course getting exercise would help a lot.

Anyway, welcome aboard. And you can do this, because you already have once.

:iagree: with all of the above, so don't have much more to add Tom, except a great big welcome to our little part of the world. You should find lots of friendly, non-judgemental support in here & start to feel that you are amongst friends. I hope so, anyway. All the best, Cate.

Welcome Tom! I'm super awkward also but in a totally different way (although I do love a good video game too). I think the hardest part about decided to lose weight is the whole pesky follow through thing, helps to have a good plan. I also leave my debit card at home most days too and try only shopping once a week and cooking all my meals at home instead of eating out. It' helped a lot.

Hey, thanks for all the messages of support. Yeah, I am rather introspective. I do a lot of thinking after all.

Anyways, I took a trip to the store today. Bought my essentials. Lean meats and beans, mostly. I have some protein shakes as well, which I usually take after going on the treadmill.

Had my last soda today. Cherry-Lemon SunDrop, I knew thee well.

I'm quitting sodas, but caffeine is a different story. If I wanted to quit caffeine, I would need a week off where I don't do anything and shut myself away from humanity. Because, if I don't have caffeine in 24 hours... Well, I'll have a bad time. Extreme headaches and vomiting, mostly. So I got some Vivarin, which is essentially caffeine in pill form. I'm going to try weaning myself off by cutting the pills as I go, so I'll see how that works.

Anyways, my preparations are complete. Tomorrow morning the real deal begins.

I like to wean myself off with tea. One cup of tea has slightly less caffeine than a soda. It works to take the edge off.

Welcome. I can understand you. I am working two jobs also. I have no friends where i live and not much support. I came here for support and motivation but didnt even get a reply on my last post. Oh well. I started my new change on Jan. 1st. Good luck.

Hi Tom, quitting sodas is great, but I'm with you on quitting caffeine. I love my short black espressos in the morning & am not giving them up any time soon. You will get support in the forum. It's a good place to be. Well done on getting prepared & planning for success. You will do well! Cheers, Cate.

Hey Tom, another welcome here :) Starting a new job (let alone two) will always mean stress, to which some people react by eating more, others with eating less. But you´re doing the wise thing: which is to start again before you´re back up to your old hightest weight. We´re all in this together and I have found this a great place for support and advice. Good luck with your journey!

Sounds like you have a great plan already. I hear you on the caffeine thing and recently went through a few rough weeks trying to drop caffeine although I didn't experience the vomiting.

Yikes, that sounds like quiet the caffeine addiction! Do you get all your caffeine from soda or do you drink tea and/or coffee? No matter what, a gradual process sounds essential.

"Quitting" sodas was tough for me but I've grown accustom to the change now. Helped dramatically. I had the worst habits and changed. If I can literally anyone can. Just find what works for you, stick to it and you'll be 170 in no time. You seem like you're ready for it, so go out and grab it! Put all that thinking to positive use and I know you'll achieve your goals!

TODAY'S WEIGHT: 257.3 lbs

Heh. Been a doozy of a first couple of days, I must say. Had some special circumstances at work that's been keeping me busy. I've been so busy I haven't been able to get on the treadmill. Oh well, at least I've been eating clean so far.

I've been thinking of something else to help motivate my weight loss once things get back to normal with work. I don't know if I'll actually go through with it though. I'll go into more detail about it later if I go through with it.

Anyways, not much else to say. Being busy, eating like I should, and I've lost over 3 pounds so far (in water weight mostly, I assume). I hope Sunday I can finally get on the treadmill, since Saturdays I work all day. Blah.

Hi Tom

Weight loss is full of myths. But, I would like to share a number of strategies that seem to be effective.

1. Drink Water, Especially Before Meals
2. Drink Coffee, Prefer Drink Green Tea
3. Eat Eggs For Breakfast
4. Cook With Coconut Oil
5. Cut Back on Added Sugar
6. Eat Less Refined Carbs
7. Keep Healthy Food like fruits, a handful of nuts, baby carrots, yogurt and a hardboiled egg Around in Case You Get Hungry
8. Chew More Slowly
9. Don’t “Diet”, Eat Healthy Instead
10. Get Good Sleep
