I DID IT! 263-184 79lbs Lighter (YOU CAN TOO)

Wow! I've seen your before and after pictures before, but nice to see the updates and that you are maintaining nicely. Keep motivated! Look at all you've accomplished... You look great!

Wow man, great transformation! I personally went from 260 to 178, but wow your stomach has shrinked dramatically....

Jess,

Good to hear from you again. I'm not even going to pretend that I have the secret to staying motivated over the long term as I've had many attempts over the years that didn't stick long term, but your story/post really made an impact on my motivation back in June I thought I would try to help you out.

First off, here's something you wrote back in June on this thread......... which is my next mission... toning up and getting more generally fit. So, the first question is, Have you accomplished that mission? If not, was it really a mission, or just a dream? If it was just a dream, you don't have a committment to yourself. If it was really a mission.....do it.

Ask yourself what you wanted when you started your journey. If you said something like, "I want to loose weight and keep it off for a year", then skip the gym. I'm suspecting that you have various aspects of what you used to be that in your head you said, "Never again".....there's only one way to make that happen.

How about setting a goal for yourself to reach by the spring that will involve keeping you in the gym? A certain bench press weight/rep, or a certain number of calories burned in an hour on an eliptical, etc. Just something that is specific, instead of the nebulous, "Oh, I need to go to the gym today".

I really feel indebted to you for the motivation your story gave me back when I was starting. I'm not quite there yet, but have been working like a mad man to show you up as you challenged me to. I've lost 62 pounds, am wearing large shirts (at least some) instead of XXL, have lost 9 inches from my waist, gone from wearing really tight 42 to 36 (which are a bit loose) pants, etc, etc (Iknow you know the story). I owe a bunch of that to your success story.

Maintaining the weight loss long term is the hard part of this battle. Now is when you need to make sure you move forward. If you loose the battle in your head when deciding whether or not to go to the gym, you will eventually end up looking like the old Jess in your before pictures. Maybe not next week, next month, next year, but eventually.

Here's a couple of quotes to contemplate....

Thank you so much!! It feels great... Everytime I'm feeling a bit down or lazy I come back here for added motivation :)

Yeah I didn't realize how big I had become... Most people around me don't remember it either, but the camera and the scale don't lie... Congrats on your transformation dude! We are like twins ha.

Dave, Thanks so much for the quotes and the inspiration and everything you have said is correct. I'm sorry it took me so long to reply to this post, but I think what you said in it accurately reflects my state of mind for the last few months. For me I need a concrete goal... The "I should go to the gym" mentality just wasn't working for me. I'm still in relatively good shape and I just started heading back to gym and have been sucessful with it, but I've given myself a more specific goal and a more defined regiment of training. I wanna run a 1/2 marathon on May 2, 2010... and I'm ready :). I think I"m going to register soon and there is no turning back. I think I'm going to set a more defined goal involving my weight training too because I want to kill two birds with one stone.

I'm elated to find out I was such a motivational factor for you.. I'm glad to hear you're making such big steps... 36 waist and the large shirt thing is HUGE... I wonder where you are at today... My body is freakishly porportioned so I don't expect you beat me :p.... My skeleton isso rather odd, that I can squeeze into some 28 size shorts... yet my ribcage is too big to fit into some mediums

I came back here for more motivation and I got it from you this time... Thanks for all the advice and you're right... If I don't constatnly keep this in my head I will end up as the old Jesse again.... Over the holidays I was lazy and complacent and I gained a bit of weight and lost a bit of muscle... but concrete goals is what I need.

Oh my god you look like Hans Landa from Inglourious Basterds!! (played by Christoph Waltz)

..... ummmm thanks????? He is like in his 40s ha ha, but a cool cat

yeah think of the big picture... notice the little things... the ability to run a minute longer... lift 5 more lbs or one belt knotch... it all adds up and over time you will have a big transformation 2 :) good luck.

Great results!!!

How many pounds did you lose a week?

Some weeks I lost 4 or 5 lbs some weeks i gained a pound or 2, but on the average I would say I lost about 2-3lbs a week when I was being my most diligent.

sorry i have nothing profound to say but you look like a completely different person. Thanks for posting so that we can all be motivated!!

amazing dude amazing!! inspiring :) huge difference! how did u control ur eating habits? dint u want to eat dat slice of pizza after watchin it in d plate!!

blah... Im falling guys.. .I really want to get back in the right mindset... and don't want to rollercoaster for the rest of my life... Trying to reinstate boundaries and start working out again, but this time of year does little for my motivation...

I'm over 200lbs again and that is not ok for me.... So I will be back in this forum until I feel healthy again.

Wow that was truly inspirational. You look amazing. Definitely see the young Christoph Waltz in there. It sucks that you're back in the 200's but I know you can do it again. Your work out routine was pretty damn rigorous. Good luck :)

Well done man.

You just made me want to go and hit the gym right now. My goal for the New Year is to lose 50-55 lbs by June when my first baby arrives.

Again, congratulations.

Wow! you look amazing and your eyes are so blue!

Sorry to hear you gained some weight again though =[ But you did it once so you can do it again =D

Betcha didn't know that it was a measly 79 pounds standing in between your "before", and looking strikingly similar to that studly Glenn Howerton ;)

You look really really great, congrats.

Jess, Sorry to hear you're falling.....I know the feeling all too well. I just tried to send you a private message. If it's not there, let me know.....my sent messages doesn't indicate that it actually went through.

Hi Jess

You did an amazing job to achieve your earlier progress.
If you were to STOP and consider...what were you focusing on when you successfully lost the weight before.
And how is that different to what you were focusing on over the holiday period?

In what way are these two answers different and could that help you get your focus back on where you want to be?

Best wishes

I saw the pics you posted and wow, what a change! :hurray:

Don't allow yourself to fall, you made such great progress before and you can do it again! Your before-and-after pics are obviously an inspiration to many people here. Just keep focused!
