Hi all,

I'm 25 years old (or will be on Sunday) and have always been a bit on the chunky side throughout my life. There's been times when I was younger where I've lost a fair bit of weight only to put it all back on plus more. When I was at uni I lost a lot and went down to a size 10 in my trousers but now I'm a size 16.

About 3 years ago I tried so hard to lose weight, I managed to get to about 139lb and despite only being 5,2" I felt this was quite comfortable. Ideally I'd like to get back to being that weight but I've gone up to 176lb.

I can't blame one single thing for this total ballooning but I've had a rough time over the summer with my fella being treated for cancer and also losing my job (which I loved). I know I can't blame it all on other things but they certainly haven't helped.

On Saturday night I was meant to be going out on a works night out but found that none of my clothes fitted me. I had a bit of a breakdown and didn't bother going out in the end as I just felt totally disgusting. My fella is feeling a bit hurt too as I don't like him touching or cuddling me as I feel self concious.

All this week I've been trying harder not to eat so much and not to eat badly and keep doing so. My downfalls are that I like carbs and eat loads of rice, pasta and bread sometimes late at night. Also I can easily eat a huge bag of crisps on my own so I've stopped buying things like that. I've also been trying to have my big meals for lunch rather than tea and just having soup or a roll in the evenings. I'm also making an effort to drink more water.

Exercise is a bit difficult with over 100 animals in my house to look after. After I've dropped a bit of weight I hope to take up swimming again.

Welcome. This site is a good start. I joined up and starting my weight loss six days ago, this is Day 6 for me, down 6 lbs in six days and without hunger, imagine that! Maybe if you change what you eat you could get away from so many carbs? Shock your body by eating healthy foods it has never encountered, and with exercise (that dreaded word, but it does not have to be so-- you can walk right? get out and walk those pets! buy an exercycle-- I just bought one at at Sears yesterday for $250 and set it up right smack in the middle of my living room to pedal while I watch a movie or tv, then slide it up next to the wall when not using it.)

Try a hard boiled egg for a snack (make a batch of em for snacks, high protein, no/low carbs); sprout hummus tomato sandwich for lunch, fish and vegetables for dinner. Grapefruit, canteloupe (160 cals in an entire canteloupe!), orange for snacks during the day.

Check out this article, if the moderator will let this link exist-- an article about human evolution as it relates to rice, grains, etc. and how they affect diet, blood sugar, and thus weight:

In fact, as I think about my first week here and my six pound weight loss over six days (I know that can not continue), my eating this past six days has been pretty much minimal carb, pre-10,000 B.C. diet (pre-agriculture diet)! Fish, meat, lots of veggies in salads and stir fry and as the accompanyment to some fish or meat and home-made vegie stew/soup; some fruit snacks; hard boiled eggs for snacks, eggs for breakfast. No rice. Light Grain (70cals per two slices?) bread for sprout hummus tomato sandwiches have been my main intake of carbs. Things available to a hunter-gatherer 12,000 B.C. LOL! Just an interesting observation, I will see what happens over time.

Someone here led me onto fitday.com and I love that site, I use it all day to track my foods, calories, exercise, caloric balance to be sure I am expending far more calories than I eat (BMR + exercise - foodcals). Just a few hundred cals of exercise from walking or whatever, eat sensibly and with a decent negative caloric balance, the math and physics says the lbs must come off. And I have not been going hungry with all this.

Good luck, c ya around here.
And happy birthday tomorrow (Sunday)-- a chance to start a new life of weight loss on your bday!

Hi Randall thanks for the message I'll be sure to check out your links tonight at some point! This bit of your post made me laugh though...

"you can walk right? get out and walk those pets!"

At the moment it's snowing here in Scotland, I dunno if my snakes, tarantulas and rats would appreciate a walk in it. lol

HAHAH, LOL. Guess your pets will have to stay inside. But I live in cold snowy northern Minnesota, USA, so we have similar weather to a degree. Bundle up, get a face mask, wear layers of clothing, get an mp3 player and get out and burn some cals walking. The heavier you weigh, the more cals you burn per minute or step compared to a normal weight person, so think of that bonus for the exercise!

Go on a hunt-- hunt down all the bad food in your fridge and cupboards and throw it away! Every pound of junk or bad food you throw away is a pound you might have gained. Get rid of it, donate it to food shelf or homeless shelter, etc! Let your loss (weight, food you get out of your house) be their (the unfortunate) gain!
