How to make this forum better?

Just my two cents...
- Change of colour, or interchangeable skins sound good. The blue is a
little...uhm....almost clinical.
- Avatars - why do I see some people with animated ones, but when I tried to
upload mine, it told me I couldn't have an animated one? *pout* Provided
that they are within the allowed size, animated avatars should be okay for
everybody.
- Rating system/stars - I agree, that should just be taken out. This isn't a
competition, or at least I didn't think it was. And there will always be stupid
people who abuse the system.
- Signature - Would it be possible to add a couple of lines to it, maybe make it
5 instead of just 3? It's difficult to squeeze anything in there apart from the
ticker.
Hmm...can't think of anything else at the moment. Oh, and I used to design and run my own webstes for a while, and I've got some spare time, so if you need any help, maybe with new layouts for the forum or something, I'd be more than happy to help!!

My major complaint with the forum is the way threads I've read will still be bolded; I'll go to the "first unread message" and it's one I've already read.
Also, some new posts do not show up as new posts; they show up as read posts.
That's really the only majorly irritating thing about the forum. The rest of it is fine.
