After getting into a rut on the flat bench, I started a new routine (one of Waterbury's full-body routines). I decided to use the incline bench for my chest work and after four weeks, I made some decent gains. Just for kicks, I decided to go back to the flat bench for my first workout of this week (week 5) and much to my surprise, I made much better gains on the flat bench than expected.
Before I started the Waterbury routine, I could barely flat bench 160 lbs. 4x5 times, but yesterday (after doing incline for four weeks) I was able to do 170 4x5 w/ little struggle. My chest is pretty sore today which I wasn't really surprised about.
So my my question is, is it too early for me to go back to flat bench?
Should I stay w/ incline for a few more weeks or switch to dumbells?
