Unless you are specifically needing to be a set weight, boxing or similar weight class, the scales are a virtually useless form of assessing progress. As Kiwi has already stated it can easily be a demoralising one too so best avoided.
When I used to be aiming for mass gains I weighed in every day and plotted the weight to see trends, intending to stay objective and only look at trend. Most of the time I kept to this but there were days when I saw a drop and was depressed by it. I would have been mentally better off weighing less often.
Learning from your mistakes is good, learning from those of others is better.
