How much to do per week?

I'm 16 year olds, and I mainly want to work out my arms. I currently do push-ups, bicep curls, and "advanced curls". I just wanted to know how many times I should work out per week? I do about 3 sets of 30 for the push ups, 2 sets of 20 for the bicep curls, and the same for the "advanced curls", except its 21 not 20.

I think you should add more compound movements. And your rep range is off, if you want size get a heavier weight and target 8-12 reps of 3 sets.

How heavy should I go? And what other excercises do you recommend, I need something for my forearms. I'm new to this stuff so I don't know what I should really do.

You need to get a routine and focus more on compound exercises rather than on just biceps, along with getting your diet in check.

excellent post...that's my favorite newbie routine, and the OP is a newbie.

the best way to get big arms when you're new is to train your chest and back 2 or 3 times a week, and toss just a couple of bicep curls or tricep extensions at the end of teh session.

Alright thanks. I've always wondered this, but say I do 20 push-ups in the morning, then another 20 at night. Would that be worse than if I just did 40 all at once? Also, how long does it take for you to lose the muscle, saying like if I stopped for about a week, would I have lost some muscle?

You'll lose muscle if you don't have your body fed sufficiently. If you eat crap.. your results will be crap. I think you need to do some more reading on the forum. Pushups are not going to build your arms into ron jeremy. And since it looks as if you are going to be bulking.. you gotta eat hella lot more. Were talking in good foods.. like chicken, tuna, oatmeal, egg whites, lean red meats, veggies, fruits etc.

EDIT: also if your going to get into this.. you must devote yourself to it.. not jump into action 1 week and jump out the next.. I would wait until you have the right amount of knowledge to tackle this off.

mm hmm nother EDIT... I put ron jeremy.. all weekend I was calling my friend that cause he thinks he's the "shiet." I meant ronnie coleman.

lol, I just started push-ups because i'm going to apply for West Point, and they require you that you do 75 push-ups in 2 minutes. It's pretty hard, I can barely do 30, they require for you to go all the way down too

Yes keep doing pushups to get your numbers higher.. but as far as neglecting everything but your arms is a no-no. It is pointless to work your arms only.. and the rest of your body be unproportinate(sp?). You'll reach a point where your upper body cannot be further support by your lower, and bigger problems will start to occur.

I think it's unproportional? idk

But like Brahma said, you should work your whole body. West point isn't looking for someone who has nice biceps, right? Work everything and when you get there you'll have a 1 up as you've been preparing for this.

Wrestling season starts in November for me and we have to do 100 pushups and 100 sit ups. 20X20... I know I can't do that, so what I do is I set short term and long term goals. I know that November is far, so that goal is obviously 100 a piece. I can't just do 100, so I work my way up and gradually increase my numbers until I reach that mark. Just take it slow and steady and the results will show.

Work your whole body and you'll be much better off. Good luck.

Yeah thanks guys. I really don't have the time do do the whole deal and spend all my time on working out, I have to keep up my grades. I'm only 16 and I dont want to be all buffed out, just want to meet the requirements of WP. Do you think it would be ok to just do push-ups, situps, and run?

I would throw in some pull ups just to round out you're workout. The best way to train for push ups, sit ups and running is by doing them.
