How many reps?

hi,

im new

well i just started doin full body work outs every second day, and im wondering how many lifts i do, im wanting to add weight to me, not loose weight.

example bench press: i just do 30 lifts up and down or a certain weight then rest.

i dont get what reps, sets means...., reps = how many time u move up and down?....., i get confused.

im aiming for strength and make my self bigger, so im guessin more weight on barbells thats better? and do less reps?.

also when do u guys take ur shake after or before working out.

thanx :)

the sets are how many times you do a certain exercise. Reps are how many repetitions are in 1 set.

so 1 set can contain 8 reps.

To build size and strength you will need a healthy appatite. Eat big get big.

I would keep to no more than 12 sets for big muscle groups, (legs, back, chest, shoulders)

6-9 for small groups (Biceps, triceps)

for adding size and strength stick to between 6-10 reps in each set and rest inbetween sets for about 2 mins.

to add,

you should be at almost failure for the last rep on each set. Warm up properly and increase in weight slightly for each set. on you last set if you can do 8 reps easily you should up the weight
