How many push ups can you do?

I heard that 40 push ups means your in shape but I can only do 25 at one time  But then I know people who struggle doing one lol no joke. how many can you do?

well to get into my program last year i had to do 50 in less than 1 min and i got a standing ovation! lol actually it was pretty funny. i couldn't believe how many ppl (both sexes) could not do a push up with proper form! i did it and that was 1 1/2 weeks after ab surgery. now i don't bother to count i just do them til i can't do any more.

Yeah its just like anything if you dont do them you wont be able to do very many, cause my friend is failry strong stronger than me thats for sure but he doesnt ever do push ups and i can do alot more than him so you dont necesarily hae to be stong you just need to practise.

I can do 60 maybe 70. I have been doing them for a while though.

Pushups only work a little bit of the arm though, don't rely on them to do everything.

There are many variations as was said before. The push ups I enjoy doing work the chest very well, but other push ups, like diamond push ups are very particular towards the arms. I also believe it requires strength, but a different kind than like...one rep maxing.

Yeah, although I never do pushups for some reason, I can do about 50+ at one time. I doubt in under a minute however, since that would require me to do some of them in under 1 second, which is pretty darn fast.

50 in under a minute isn't so bad esp when there is 2 people standing over you with a clip board, and it means the difference between getting into a program or not. lol.

wow thats great. i don't think i could beat that i would have to try! but i seriuosly don't think i could, maybe i could get close thou. thanks now i just have to try it!! :)

81 pushups per minute? That's like 1.35 of them every single second. Seems impossible to me, but I guess you have no reason to lie, so I guess I'll believe it.

Sounds like a fallacy to me. Anyway, I don't think your buddy Shawn Sutter would appreciate you being so eager to give his name out like that. What's his rank, by the way, and his age, height, weight, location, and mother's maiden name?

Are you aware of his social security and phone number?

Lol, you don't have to sweat all those question, just being a smart ass. Just give me his SS# and we'll be cool.

Actually he would love for you to know that... and yes he is my good buddy.. who cares if i give his name out its a forum.. far from sweating them man... why do you want his SS?

It would have to be 60+ for you to need to do 'em in under 1 second.

I can do about 40 easily, 50 if I try. I think Apex's fitness gauge puts you at "healthy" or "very healthy" if you're at or over 35 or something. Anything less is a sign of poor muscle endurance, which could mean a number of things.

This is not fact. but I believe you have to do 60 in 2mins to get in to entry level armed forced.

The most ive ever done is 300 without putting my knee down, it took a while tho. I can do about 70 per min.

Its easier if you do them slower otherwise you start dropping to the bottom witch causes the muscles to "jerk" stop you at the bottom.

I found that the best way to train is to lift heavy, bench press, shoulder press, front latural raise and tricep extend.

Speed doesn't necessarily build muscle, it just means you can push your body really fast up and down.

Slower movements cause more work on the arms, thus more of a workout.
