how many calories should i be aiming to lose day

how many calories do i need to burn to lose 1bls

ok guys im 22 5'7 168bls i want to lose 40bls by june 18th i have a gazelle i do 50 mins (4 miles) lose 522 calories
my question is to stay with in my 5bls a week target do i need to up my calorie loss i work out 3 times a week 200 crunches,200 side crunches 200 lower ab crunches i also lift 5bl weightshow many calories do i need to burn to lose 1bls please someone must know!!!

5 lbs a week is an unhealthy amount of weight to lose. Aim more towards 2 lbs a week, or 3 if you're ambitious. You're also way overdoing the crunches. Crunches only make your abdominal muscles bigger - and don't forget, muscle weighs more than fat!

It takes 3500 calories to burn 1 lbs of fat, so you want to be sure that after eating, exercise, and what you normally burn per day, you're losing that much over a few days.

To lose 2-3 lbs a week, you'd have to have a daily caloric defecit of around 1000 - 1500.

It sounds like you're going pretty overboard. Why the rush?
