How long before you loose muscle mass?

I slipped on the ice yesterday and really wrench up my back big time. Tried to do my weights today and the pain gets almost unbearable. Got a appointment with the doctor for friday and was wondering how long does it take to lose muscle if I had to stop lifting for a while? I can still do a small bit of cardio with a little resistance but don't know if this is the same as lifting? Thanks..m :)
 
it depends. i injured myself last spring and couldnt lift until october. i went from 195 to 178.

however, the good news is, i was back to 195 by christmas, so it comes back fast.

apparently it does take some time to lose results. i stopped lifting for 6 months a couple years ago and lost muscle but gained size around the waist. :(

check with the doc first and see if maybe some dumbell work could be done. hopefully being active will help you recover faster. :)

After loosing all my weight for sure don't want to put any on. If I do atkins intro here I come again. Tried a little cardio with some real light weights and went about 20 minutes before the pain got real bad.

Swimming would be good but would have to cut a big hole in the ice first
:D :D No place close for me to swim indoors but good idea wolverine :D

Will see the doc friday and hopefully it won't be too bad. Thanks all...m :cool:
