How is sleep important in losing weight?

Ive been trying to lose weight for a while now but with all the efforts I made, it seems to have no impact. Would it be because of my sleeping habit? Because with my work I usually sleep at 5am.

That could be one of the reasons. I would like to give you some simple data so that you would understand why you aren’t able to lose your weight.

• Normal sleepers ate breakfast by 9 a.m., lunch at 1 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m., on average. These sleepers reported being finished with eating for the day by 8:30 p.m.

• Late sleepers reported eating their first meal of the day at about noon. They ate again in the middle of the afternoon, and did not eat dinner until after 8 p.m. Late sleepers did not finish their eating for the day until 10 p.m., on average.

• Late sleepers slept less overall than normal sleepers -- an average of more than an hour less per night.

• Late sleepers consumed more calories at dinnertime than normal sleepers. They also consumed significantly more calories after 8 p.m.

• Late sleepers had poorer quality diets than normal sleepers -- they ate more fast food, drank more sugar-laden soda, and ate fewer vegetables.

If you can change your working time then it would be best option you have. Otherwise you need to add lots of vegetables, fruits and salad in your daily routine. Don’t forget to avoid fatty food at any cost.

I agree with Albert's comment. Late sleepers are more prone to foods with high amount of calorie that is why they mostly gain weight. If you can change your schedule time it would be great. In addition, I've also read from a blog yourwellnesscircle.wordpress.com that lack of sleep is a potential contributor in gaining weight, this is primarily because of the two hormone that are the key factor of losing weight, the ghrelin and leptin. Read more about the post on for more information.

To add to this, a lack of sleep tends to inhibit leptin, which is the hormone that your stomach produces to tell your brain that you're full. So basically, you'll spend the entire day eating more than you need because your brain isn't getting the full signal.

Also, being overtired tends to elevate your cortisol levels (the stress hormone) which can cause exaggerated insulin releases and thus, will cause more hunger as your blood sugar drops.

Well I don't think so and I can say that taking 8 hour sleep is good for health and with that you can feel fresh and can able to do your work with full energy. Always follow proper diet, sleep can't give you the result what you want for weight loss.

If you have monitored calories and have been getting regular exercise and it has not made a difference in your weight, you should consult a doctor.

If you sleep well, your metabolism will be balanced, thereby you wont feel like eating excess food. If you don't get adequate sleep, your eating habits will be disturbed and digestion system will also not work well.

definitely its about sleeping habit itself. As one will be fit when he/she wake's up at that time i mean 5 am and your're quite opposite to that change you sleeping habits as your metabolism works up on the climatic change as gradually the day grows up your metabolism will go slowly down.
