how does high calories build bigger muscles

how does having a high calorie diet benefit for weightlifting?
wouldnt those calories goto body fat %
just somethn i havnt lookd into
 
well, you dont really need HIGH calories for muscle gain. HIGHER is the key. more calories, more energy.

some say 500 over maintenance is more than enough
 
Your body needs a set amount of calories just to maintain its existing weight. If you want to build muscle you need to have enough fuel to maintain plus what is required to build muscle. The calories should be from good foods though and not just junk.
 
yea, i never agreed with those who say "you have to eat at least 4000 calories a day to get bigger."

its better to determine how many calories you're at now and work with that.
