How do I satisfy the munchies

That seems pretty smart. Especially if you make your own salsa fresh, and keep the chip count within reason. I'm mostly a raw food vegan, and the GG baked chips are good, one of my few 'exceptions'. Tip: You can get 'fresh', non-pasteurized, Santa Barbara salsa at Costco for $1.66 a pound, which is probably less than you'd pay for tomatoes or that yucky cooked stuff in a jar.

100% Whole Grain Wheat Thins (16 of them!) and a wedge of low fat Laughing Cow cheese = 175 calories, has great "munchability" and tastes great. As an added plus, because the crackers are whole grain, they are good for you AND will help you feel full :)

Wasa Dark Rye Crisp Bread (the Ryevita's are good too) with a little bit of low fat cream cheese and either a veggie on top, or if I want sweet, some preserves..

Preplanning helped my snack attack today... earlier in the week I steamed a bunch of asparagus and string beans and stashed them in the fridge in airtight containers... I've been adding them to salads at dinner.. today, though, those green beans, with just a teeny bit of sesame oil... (about 1/4 tsp) and 1/2 tsp of soy sauce with a squeeze of lemon juice got me the crunchy salty craving satisifed... for well under 100 calories for about 25 green beans...

Here is a quick, healthy and delicious snack.

Cut an apple in half, clean the middle and drizzle some cinnamon powder on it (with no sugar), pop into the microwave and cook it there for around 3-5 min. It is ready when it has turned brown and soft. There is always fluid that drains from it, so use soup dishes, and turn the apple in the fluid, because that is the sweet stuff. You will be surprised on how delicious it is, it is so close to the taste of applecake that you feel like you are cheating :) If you can get a sugar-free, low fat vanilla icecream with it, then it is even yummier. You can also eat with it some sour cream (low fat).

You can do the same to f.ex. banana (but then you cook it in microwave for no more then 1-2 min). Drizzle it with no-sugar cacao powder, eat sourcream or diet-icecream then Voilá, something that tastes like a banana split but is actually healthy and low in calories.

Sounds great, Heidrun, and I'm always looking for ways to incorporate cinnamon into my diet since it is supposed to help control blood sugar.

I don't use microwaves; have you ever made this in the oven? If so, about how long does it take?

I love the smell of baked apples (and if you are selling a house, it's suggested that you do put an apple or two in the oven with some cinnamin for the aroma)

oven baked apples are waaaay better than microwaved.. I use my toaster oven for them... depending on the type of apple you use... it takes about 30 minutes at about 350 degrees... if it's a really crispy apple, like a granny smith, it takes a little longer.. (you can also cut'em up in chunks to have it cook faster.

I think I have a new favorite snack treat.... I was inthe grocery store today - and spotted Kame brand rice crackers - they had a few different flavors - i got the seaweed and the cheese... a single serving of the seaweed is about 19 crackers (and these crackers are a little smaller than a ritz cracker) for 120 calories... Just salty enough for me.. and very crispy... (and an entire package is just 3 servings so while I'm fighting with myself NOT to binge- if I did.. it's not a huge calamity... :)`

I always buy in the local supermarket a bag with dried seaweed. Its an Icelandic speciality and they even pick the seaweed in my local area. The seaweeds have similar calorie count as salads, plus it has a variety of beneficial supplements. It also tastes great (note its an aquired taste :p ). It tastes like mmm..... dried seaweed I guess. I eat it in front of the TV when watching a good movie, instead of having the bag of chips like I used to have.
