HOT for my Honeymoon!!

Hey Lisa!! I posted this in my diary but thought I'd re-post it here... I was really terrible on Christmas too, and I'd been sooo horribly lazy for the couple weeks beforehand too. It was really the kick up the bum I needed to get back into it!!!
I know you'll pick yourself up again, and you know the damage probably isn't as bad as you think. And you know what? Weight is just a number. You're fit and strong and that in itself is an awesome thing!!
Have a happy new year, I'll catch up with you when you're back!!! xx

Hey Lisa

I hope you are feeling better....now it's a new year and time to put the holiday behind us! New Year New Inspiration......you can do it!

Lisa, Happy New year!!! 2011!!! :cheers2:!

So look. Sarah's post was amazing! I completely agree and am happy to know you and be part of your journey as well! She has every point in the book and I hope that you take her advice and really re evaluate, because you deserve to be happy! We all do. :D!

With that said,.....2011 my friend. No joke. Let's work for it!!! I'm definitely shifting my goal away from pounds and into DAILY action! I want that. I can do that. The pounds will melt as an end result of my actions.

I'm excited this year, because I have you to take this journey with!!

Shit, I'm even thinking of becoming a MORNING person! HEHE! ;)

Love you, Lisa!! :grouphug:!

HAPPY NEW YEAR FRIENDS!!
Thank you all for stopping by and leaving such nice messages.
It feels like I have been gone forever again - boy holidays really get me down. Shouldn't they get me up?? Well they do and then they get me down if that makes any sense!
Coming back to work today was hard but I'm so glad to get into a routine again. I really really need routine. I have been over doing it at every meal and have been drinking my face off. Today is a start to healthy living again - meaning putting in the effort and getting to the gym. I stay on track when I'm tracking so it's back to that. I'm going to be good all week and then get back to WW next Wednesday. I'm so scared to step on the scale. I read a couple posts around the forum where people were bad over the holidays but managed to stay the same weight - I wish I had their metabolism. Seriously if I'm not good for a couple weeks I instantly gain 5 pounds - no matter what!! Not even water weight either - literally 5 pounds of fat!
There are only 67 more sleeps till my cruise and there is no way I'm going to reach my goal. I've accepted that and I'm moving on. I am just going to work as hard as I can and face the fact that I will never weigh 135. Sarah you are right. Maybe if I didn't have a full time job and didn't love food so much I could but those things will never change and therefore I will never have the discipline to get that low.
I am going to concentrate on my workouts by using my new heart rate monitor and focus on getting stronger and fit. I'll probably still write out my food journal since that keeps me accountable but I will be focusing on my workouts.
I'll admit I was pretty crabby over the holidays and that led to more emotional eating than I would have liked. I hate being crabby and lazy and it's just a vicious cycle for me once I get in it. Getting back to the gym usually turns that around so I'm looking forward to a good workout tonight.
It feels good to be back - that is forsure!:seeya:

Welcome back! You seem refreshed :) I like that you're going to focus on fitness goals more so than weight loss now... I was thinking of making some fitness goals such as being able to run @ 7.5 mph on the treadmill for a mile or maybe you could make a goal to go up in weights for kettle bell class... things like that where we can REALLY measure our progress and focus on what we have accomplished instead of what we aren't accomplishing with weight loss goals. There's just no way to feel bad about yourself when you can see how much faster you can run or how many push ups you can do or how much weight you can lift!

Maybe we could both try this?

It's a training schedule to get you do be able to do 100 push ups in 6 weeks! I'm game if you are :coolgleamA:

Also I am going back to the 5K training schedule that I used to start running in the first place... except instead of running at 5.5 mph I'll be running at 6.8 mph! I think having a "scheduled" workout makes it easier to stick with sometimes. I leave for Hawaii in a few days so I am starting it when I get back so I can turn this flab into fab for spring break!!! :D

Take care, chat tomorrow :waving:

Welcome back Lisa!!!

I kind of know what you mean about holidays- I'm on school hols right now (only working weekends and having the whole week off) It sucks!!! It's so easy to just sit and eat all day... and most of my friends are working but I can't get more hours. So I'm poor and playing computer games and watching TV all day lol. I really miss my hectic lifestyle... still got like a month till term starts again though!! Makes me feel like I have a lack of purpose right now actually.

I gain weight insanely easy too- I ate soooooooo bad Christmas day but I'm pretty sure that's what stopped me from going crazy any day after... so I managed to keep damage to a minimum.

Woohoo on the new gadget!!! Actually I got something cool to play with during my workouts too (haha haven't yet, but will!!) It's called a Gymboss, it looks kinda like a pedometer... but it's an interval timer. You set how many intervals you want to do, you set the 2 different intervals (ie, 1min normal with your 30 sec sprint) then you set it to beep or vibrate and off you go. Haha no more looking at the clock! It's a stopwatch too which is handy.

Good luck with all your fitness goals- that's definitely a great thing to focus on. I'm not too incredibly fussed about my weight when I know I'm fit and strong and LOOK like I am. Easily takes lbs off how you look too!!

The food thing too- You absolutely need to compromise. I love food also... but really you have to decide if fitting into a teeny dress or whatever is worth giving up so many things that taste amazing. I mean you only live once. I made a cheeesecake for my trainer last month and brought it to the gym group and one of the ladies put it really well- "This is what we workout for!"

If you are planning on getting hard into the exercise though you may need to up your calories a little to power your workouts and for better recovery afterward. You'll probably more than likely end up losing some weight along the way anyway :D

Until next time...

Lucy xx

Hi Lisa! I know how you feel! I eat one bad thing and I gain so EASILY and my husband has such a good metabolism. Anyhoo, I just wanted to drop by and wish u a happy new year

Hi chubbygirl ! .... after I have read your diary post it gave me so much more motivation ! i have the same problems, I keep on putting everything for tomorrow but tomorrow never come so why not start right away right ? I have a plan and everything, my work outs are going great so far and I'm trying to find the diet or right eating habits so my weight loss can be successful. I'm hoping to loose 30 pounds by June. I hope I can Make it !

Love that idea!! Actually last night I started to think how I would love to be able to do more pushups! I can do a ton of girl style ones but maybe only 5 regular ones without compromising my form. My shoulders are so weak and I would love to change that!! Great idea Sarah - I'll have to check out the link.

Makes me feel like I have a lack of purpose right now actually.
Hey Lucy! I totally know what you mean about feeling like you lack a purpose right now! That's why I need planning and routine! One of my new years resolutions is to be more engaged in life so I need to start making the best out of everyday!

I'm not too incredibly fussed about my weight when I know I'm fit and strong and LOOK like I am. Easily takes lbs off how you look too!!
I instantly feel better after a great workout but I don't always feel good about my weight going down if I haven't worked hard for it! I love feeling strong - more so than I do being skinny.

I totally agree!

Hey great to see you! Isn't it so frustrating how easy it is to gain 5 pounds yet it takes weeks of hard work to get it back off! Never seems worth it yet I'm constantly taking off the same 5 pounds!

I'm hoping to loose 30 pounds by June. I hope I can Make it !
You can totally make it - anyone can - just a matter of consistency, determination and taking it day by day!! Great work getting started today!

Ok so yesterday was a decent start. I'll admit I set my alarm again to get on the treadmill before work and once again I pushed snooze. Then it started snowing during the day and hubby told me I should skip the gym because the roads were getting slippery.
So I got home, prepared dinner and sat on the couch. I started watching that show x-weighted - it was about this mom who constantly battles with her weight - something she said hit me and I jumped up and got ready for a workout! Strapped on my heart rate monitor and started on the exercise bike. My heart rate wasn't going up enough for my liking so I grabbed my kettle bell (25lb) and started swinging. I couldn't believe how high my heart rate got just doing 20 swings. It doesn't even go that high running on the treadmill. I did a mixture of kettle bell swings, push-ups, jumping jacks, some core and jumped on the treadmill and ran 1 mile - I did a 1 hr workout and it felt like 20 minutes. I kept my heart rate above 135 most of the workout to a max of 168 and burned 512 calories in 61 min. I felt great!
Eating was ok too however after the workout I got into some pretzels and couldn't stop at one serving. I gave myself some credit for at least measuring out the servings but ended up having 3. Still within calories for the day because I skipped breakfast because I had an upset tummy from the night before. Getting the workout in made it a great day. Once I sat on the couch I wasn't so sure I was going to get back up!
Again this morning I set the alarm to do the treadmill and once again I hit snooze. It's not supposed to snow anymore today though so I have no excuse not to make it to the gym. I noticed when I went once over the holidays with my heart rate monitor on that the machines I was using for strength training are crap and bring my heart rate so low. I need to start using more free weights however I don't know what moves will work certain muscle groups. Anyone have a good move that targets the outer thighs and keeps my heart rate up?
I can't say it enough that it feels so good to be back!!

Oh I also wanted to post some pictures from the holidays. I loved the way I looked New Years Eve and had such a good time out because of it! The only thing I would like to change is feeling comfortable again in a strapless dress. All the other girls wore their dresses without sweaters but I was too self conscious. It didn't even bug me that much that my dress was a size 12.

Great Job, Lisa!!! :jump:!!! You are looking SO BEAUTIFUL!!! Your face is looking really chiselled and your arms are looking like GUNS!! Love it!! Your sis looks great too!

How much has she lost? I was looking at our pics the other day and it looks like her face has slimmed down some too..

As for not getting up,...for ONCE in my life...I GOT UP TO GO TO THE GYM this morning when you didn't! LOL! ;) I am really ready here to make the change!! That sounds amazing about your heart rate monitor, and that the kettle balls raise the heart rate so much. I always figured that those gym machines don't work as hard as interval work included with weights and such. The really good trainers you rarely see use them!

You and your hubby look SO CUTE together!! :beating:! I went running yesterday and was thinking about your timing and you are a BULLET! I ran 4.5 miles sick as a dog, and I'm not sure if it helped or not, but I slept only 3 hours and 4 tossing and turning coughing a lung out! ...That's literally the reason why I went to the gym at 6am this morning. I did like 40 mins in the sauna with exercise moves in there, self hypnosis recordings, and then 10 mins of treadmill. LOL!... Ok, no the most hard workout but I can barely walk I'm so sore from the past days workout.

All in all, GLAD YOU ARE BACK!!! :jump:!!! --My grandpa used to be a dietician for the Navy when I was growing up, and you bet your ass he would FORCE me to work out since the age of 6 and the HEART RATE MONITOR was a must!

Wow! so pretty!!!!!!!... I had looked at your older pictures and the ones from your older thread, and must say what an INSPIRATION! You are beautiful!

Lisa you look SO gorgeous in all your photos!!!

Unfortunately lifting weights- unless you are lifting pretty heavy- won't keep your heartrate up- or, your heartrate with rise quickly during a set, then drop again. Bigger muscle groups will get your heart rate higher and burn more calories (think chest, back, quads, glutes, hamstrings) Also compound exercises produce a bigger burn than isolated (multi-joint exercises as opposed to single joint- ie- push ups use your shoulder joint and elbow joint vs chest fly which only uses your shoulder joint)

If you really want to do a resistance workout and keep up your heart rate, a good way to go is set up a couple of circuits for yourself with high intensity cardio as one or a few of the stations. A good one I usually do right after my warm up is a leg one-

3x
Barbell lunges (Quad dominant, but whole lower body)
50 turns of skipping rope (or 20- 30secs if you can see a clock)- fast as you can!
Fitball leg curls (hamstrings/back of thigh)
50 turns of skipping rope

If you can't skip, 20 or 30 mountain climbers does the trick... It's pretty painful though haha! If you don't want cardio in between each station, maybe skip first, do the exercises you've laid out for yourself, then skip at the end.

Or an upper body one:

3x
Push ups (chest and triceps)
Barbell Row (Back and biceps)
Burpees
Shoulder Press (Shoulders and triceps)
10 sec sprint (don't know if you have an open space at your gym or not, but the gym at my school is big and you can run in this big space which is perfect)

You can really do anything in between to get heart rate up- running on the spot, box jumps, step ups... be original! :D
Or you can do your weight routine then pic a piece of cardio equipment and do 10 mins of intervals. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the exercise bike, normally I'll do 5 mins of sprinting the last 20secs of every minute and then the last 5mins I'll do 45 secs hard as I can, then I turn the resistance to full and stand up and do that for 45 secs. THAT gets your heart rate up :D Or 10 mins of interval skipping- 20 secs going hard and fast as I possibly can, and then 10 secs complete stop.

Hope I was helpful!!! If you want something more specific feel free to pm me :)

Thanks so much Alta!! I am so glad to be back too - can't express how much better it feels to be working for it!
I can totally picture 6 year old Atla and gramps working out - so cute!!!

Thanks so much - it sometimes feels like a constant battle but when I think back to where I was it's all worth it. This site is such an inspiration for me so I'm glad I can pay it forward!

Great job Lisa !!!! You look great on new years eve.! I am glad you are feeling good!
Thanks Veronique! Feeling good is so much better than being down in the dumps!! I haven't noticed an update from you in a while so I will have to go searching for your journal - great to see you! Happy New Year!

Very helpful!! There were a couple exercises I haven't heard of that I'm curious about so I will google later ex. Fitball leg curls.
I love how you mentioned to experiment or be original because that's exactly what I did at the gym last night!

Happy Friday!!
Eating was great again yesterday except hubby and I made popcorn before bed and I had a few too many handfuls again but I woke up hungry and that hardly ever happens so I think my metabolism is speeding back up. I was around 1500 calories after the popcorn.
My workout at the gym was great!! I was only there for 60 min but I made the most of those 60 min and my heart rate monitor said I burnt 660 calories. The funny thing was I put the monitor on in the morning before work and in the 9 hours leading up to the gym I only burnt 740 calories! So going to the gym for me is a must when sitting on my butt at my desk all day. I'm also trying to get up more and move around here and there during the day.
So at the gym I got on the treadmill and did 3.5 miles in 40 min varying incline. Then I went over to a free space and busted out some jumping jacks, then push-ups, then I grabbed a barbell and did some lunges and squats. Then I did more jumping jacks to keep my heart rate up and then I did some walk out push-ups and more barbell exercises - bicep curl and rows. Whenever I would see my heart rate getting down to 150 I would do a bunch of jumping jacks again followed by a strength move. I was dripping sweat and huffing and puffing during some of the push-ups but I felt like I was really getting a good calorie burn. There was a PT working out with a lady beside me and I felt like my workout was just as intense. Maybe I don't need a trainer and all I ever needed was this little heart rate monitor - I'm loving it and suggest investing in one. The one I got has a material strap instead of the old plastic ones so it's really comfortable and just feels like my bra strap.
I'm so excited it's Friday although I don't really have any plans for the weekend. Hopefully get out for a cross country ski if the weather is decent. I didn't get out once last year and my skis are still pretty new so I need to go. It's a great workout too.
Anyway I know I've said it over and over but thank you for supporting me and it feels so darn good to be back in the swing of things! HAve a great healthy weekend!!

Lisa!!! Great job on busting out the workout, girl!!! Especially next to that personal trainer. I know that sometimes, I get shy when I am next to them and see them working a person out. I automatically feel like "Don't look at me. I'm not as competent as you in your workout, and yes, I am chubby, don't look at me like you want to train me. I won't pay. LOL!..Better said, You cost a lot." Then I proceed to the other side of the gym.

Have you ever noticed how trainers just scope the gym for chubby people? :drool5: I'm telling you!... They love when they see me.. Like "Um huh! Payday walking right there!"

I'm getting really jealous of this heart rate monitor thing you got! I'm gonna have to google to see how much one costs...I want one!
You are doing great! It's really INSPIRING me!!! :jump:!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! My ladies are busting it out!!! ;)! Have a great weekend!! I was gonna go snowboarding this weekend, but a baby shower got in my way and the FLEM in my throat as well. Jealous of your cross country skiing this weekend!! Sounds so fun!!! Does your hubby go with you!?

You look AWESOME as always!! :D And isn't that red dress the one you bought last year during the holidays? Still rockin' it!! I don't have any pictures from new years :( Well.. I have a few but they are just head shots and they are terrible pictures lol I wish I would have got some pics though because I had a really cute outfit on!

Awesome workout too! I can't wait to use the gym when I go back to school. Right now all I have to work with is the treadmill and some free weights in my basement so my workouts aren't normally what I like to do. BTW, what brand is your heart rate monitor? I'd really like to save up for one now that I see how much yours is coming in handy! I can't believe you burned 500+ calories the other night just working out at home, that's great!

Keep up the good work while I'm gone, I will take lots of pics and chat with you when I get home. Take care! :waving:

I am also getting very curious about the heart rate monitor!!!! Mabe it would give me the kick in the behind I need to work out more! Just reading your diary makes me want to work out !!!! Hope you had a great weekend talk to you soon!
