Home scales

Wow. There's a lot of scale threads. When I posted mine, I couldn't find any others.

Annyway, my Weight Watchers scale broke a few mmonths after I got it. I scaleless right now.

I have a set of weightwatchers precision scales (perhaps different to the ones you had?) That I got given for Christmas, and I find them great... precise to the 1/4 of a lb and the same reading every single time.

We got ours from Lidl i think.
They were about £8 but suprisingly accurate to the decimal!
I weighed in at a high street chemist with those scales you pay to use. Went home and weighed in on my own and it showed the same reading. They also do BF%, water weight and muscle mass fairly accurately.
I'll find out the brand name for you if you are interested.
One problem though, water had got in the battery compartment and caused the batteries to leak acid. I filed the contacts down and they seem to work ok again.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I bought a cheap digital a while back and that thing says something different every time I get on it. It also says that I weigh 10 pounds more than my other one does and other people that have tried it also said that it said they wiegh more than they actually do. I also can't tell you how relieved I am to find this thread. I think I'm going to take that piece of crap and throw it out the window.

I don't know but in my on-line research, I'm finding out that a)most people think WW scales are crap (with similar problems as I have had with my scale., and b) a lot of digital scales seem to have problems with them. *groan* What am I going to do?

Oh my gosh mine does the same thing... drives me crazy!!!! I think its time for a new one hehe.. mine was just a cheep 25$ walmart one lol *Takes hammer to scale* take that!

I bought a Siltec GS1 from QuickMedical.com for $80 w/ free shipping. The scale goes up to 440 lbs and it is an awesome scale. I love it.

Body Fat Scales?

I was wondering if anyone had any advice about picking which type of body fat scale to buy? There are so many different products on the market it's hard to decide which ones will be the best...

Concentrate on the scales that give you the most accurate weight reading. The body fat percentages on these scales are usually absurd.

I own a Tanita and I am a bit suspicious of the body fat percentage readings that it gives me. This said they might well be in the ballpark.

The best way to measure body fat is have someone measure with body fat calipers, which can be found . You'll need a bit of practice, but the results will be more accurate. (And yes, I should be following my own advice on this subject. :))

I find them useful - I was a bit dubious about them, however as long as you weigh yourself at the same time every day, mine gives an accurate ready (well about 1% accurate, which is fine unless you're a pro athlete or something like that).

The result I get is about 0.5% higher than what they found at the gym.

If you're bloated/suffer from water retention/constipated/have eaten or drank a lot before etc you'll get a higher reading.

I got a medium price one.

I get so confused with my scales

Hey people, I have a very old scale, its brand name is, COUNSELOR and I started using it in the begining of losing weight. It showed me at 160 lbs, then at 158 lbs when I lost some weigt.
Today, I decided to buy a new scale, It has no brand name, but its a new scale that was brought to the store a few weeks ago. When I purchased the scale, and took it home to try, I found that when I steped on it, the lb weight displayed 151 lbs.
Now, I am very confused. Have I been thinking I am a weight, that I am not? When I went back on the old scale it showed the numbers it always shows. I don't know which scale to follow.

some scales are weird. For example mine wont register any weight under 11lbs so it makes me wonder how accurate it is.

I recommend going to somewhere like GNC and using their electronic scale. They normally cost like 25 cents i think, but are normally very accurate. That should give you an idea of whether or not your new scale is correct :)

recommended home scales?

I have a cheap bathroom scales that I use but I really don't think it is very reliable. I can have a difference of as much as 2.5 pounds within 5 minutes of getting on them. (don't ask why I get on them more than once within that time frame...call it obsession if you want ) anyway I'm thinking about getting a new one. Does anyone have any good advice on this? what about the ones that say they measure body fat too? Are they worth it? I don't have boatloads of money to put into one but would like to get an accurate set nonetheless. thanks.

A good set of scales?

I was looking at scales today online and couldent decide. I need a set of scales that weighs consistently, I dont care if its a few pounds off, as long as its consistently the same amount off.

I didint understand all the terminology used the advertisements, so im just gonna ask you guys.

Whats a good set of scales for me to get that are under 100 bucks(lower is better) that weighs at least 350 pounds, preferably 400? Doesent matter if their digital or mechanical or if a monkey pops out of my clothes hamper and tells me my weight.

I can't answer Mike's question, but I was also wondering.
I have old style scales that cost like 5 pounds and to be honest I sort of knew in the back of my mind, that they were off, but didn't want to face it. When I weighed myself at my boyfriend's flatmate's superscales I am 7 pounds heavier (oh horror!).
They are also the kind of scales that measure body fat and water. The body fat index changes like the wind! HOnestly I can step on it twice in a row and my body fat index has changed by up to like 6 or 7%. Same with the boyfriend. He is skiny to start with but one week he weighed 158 pounds and had 26% body fat, the next week he weighs 158 and has 17% body fat!!! How is that possible?
My gym scales are pretty similar in weight to his, so I am going to use his for my weekly weigh ins, but still... disconcerting to say the least!

Does anyone know if doctors scales are adjusted to account for clothes?! Cos my doctors scale said I was 2lb lighter than mine did even though I was wearing clothes and at home I weigh myself naked... I didn't actually see what it said myself so maybe he took a bit away for clothes and overcompensated... or my scales are wrong. Ah, spose it just goes to show that fixating on numbers on a scale is silly...
