Home scales

The day before the scales

How do you feel the day before you weigh yourself?
I usually feel really curious.. sort of like the night before xmas really (that probably sounds a bit dramatic!)
And isnt it just the nicest feeling in the world, when you expect nothing to come off the number, and then it does!
Losing weight is such an uplifting feeling!:D

Yep! I know exactly what you guys are saying. Monday is my weigh-in day, so on Sunday I'm always really anxious. I usually wake up a little early on Monday so I can go weigh myself really quick. :)

Its a great feeling

Since I do my weigh-ins on monday, I try to eat extra good on sunday to edge off just one more pound if I can! Lol, it hasn't been working much as of late, but I think its because I've had a run of unusual sundays. Sure, that's it, blame the circumstance ;)

Where is the best location to keep a home scale?

We had ours in the kitchen and also the bathroom, but I find myself hopping on it everyday which blows my mental focus!!! Any suggestions?

Home Scale

Put it away, in a closet or under the bed. Only take it out once a week to weigh yourself. This way you are weighing your self as a scheduled task/event and not distracting yourself with daily weights.
:)
I have myself weighed at work by someone else so that I get an accurate accounting. Have a family member present when you get weighed if you are weighing your self at home. Make it an event so you also get instant praise for pounds lost. :p

ps:Congradulations on your progress.

I agree. Put it out of sight. One of my first mistakes during my failed diets, was having it in the bathroom and hopping on every day. Your weight flucuates greatly on a daily basis and weighing day to day will discourage the crap out of you in no time. Hide it somewhere and weigh only once a week on a set day.

I know the feeling, I was last expecting maybe one pound gone, but I was down two... I am trying to not weigh every day, so I am changing it to every Monday... gotta get in some extra cardio this weekend and hopefully be down another pound or two

What are the pros and cons of weighing once a week as opposed to daily? I weigh myself every morning and really feel that I have to. I have to watch myself like a hawk. When I weigh myself each morning, I can get a pretty good idea of the relationship between cause and effect and I am less able to make excuses for myself.

I think during the week you may get fluctuations and may appear to be gaining some weight one day or see no difference. Overall in the week tho you will loose weight. The difference from day to day can't really be quantified easily.

If it works for you tho you should do it!

I prefer not to weigh myself. I weighed myself once when i began and will do it again in about 1-2 months.Plus i don't have a scale so that may explain it:D

My weight certainly fluctuates during the course of the week, that is for sure. But I still feel the need to monitor myself very closely. So far it is working out.

Another pound gone, by the way:)

Scales?

I have two scales in my house which give two very different readings. Sometimes they are match but sometimes they are as much as 7 pounds off! Anyone know anyway to test the scales? I want an accurate reading, and a 7lb difference is a bit much. Any advice would be great.

scales

It is hard to get good accurate scales for your home. They are delicate instruments that must be tested and calibrated in order to perform consistently.

First, you need to pick just one scale and stick with it for all your measurements. Home scales are seldom dead on accurate, so using a single scale will give you better results than using two different scales.

Second, pick a hard, level surface where you are going to place the scale and leave it there. Do not move it. Moving a scale can cause it to change calibration and you don't want that.

Third, weigh yourself on it three times in a row. Step on, step off. Wait until the dial stops moving, then step on and step off. And again. Do you get the same measurement all three times? If not, there is a problem. It might be that you are placing your feet in different positions, or leaning forward or back. Your weight must be centered over the scale to produce a consistent result.

Finally, try weighing yourself alone, and then again holding an object of known weight, like a bowling ball or a full bag of cat food. Repeat this for three results, like you did above. Did you get a consistent result, and did the higher weight actually equal your weight plus the known weight of the object you were holding?

If these tests provide widely varying results on your scales, try reading the instruction manual for help in calibrating the scale. If you still have problems, you might call the manufacturer or get a new scale altogether. Good luck!

I've also heard that the heavier the scale itself is, the more accurate the readings are.. but I'm not quite sure. I'm also looking for an accurate scale myself too, my scale at home gives me different readings everytime I step on to it :S

should you end up replacing them id go with a digital scale. In a perfect world they zero out and reset every time they are used. The drawback is most of them use batteries instead of plugging into the outlet. prob designed by the battery companies. Its a conspiracy lol.....

I have a digital scale... its Body Fit by brand, its a glass scale and has sensorDisc Multi-load technology for superior accuracy. According to several people I have talked to this is a really good scale, and only varies by a little bit. It cost me around $50 but I love it. It has options for lbs or kgs.

But.. when I weigh myself I do it on a hard floore.. and I put it in the exact same spot every time. I find thats important. I also usually weigh in the morning or late at night... never during the day.

My husband has a weight set, and one of the weights is exactly 10 lbs. So I put it on the scale by it's self and adjust the dial until it reads 10 lbs.

When there is nothing on my scale it reads 4lbs as opposed to zero, but when I go for my weigh in it's dead on accurate to the doctors scales.

So I guess basically the same idea as weighing yourself with something of a known weight, but without yourself first :p

Plus that way whenever my 2 year old son plays jump up and down on the scale and knocks it out by a few lbs I just get the old 10lb weight out and start again. :D
