Hiya =)

So I kind of jumped right into this forum without introducing myself! So let me do that now. I'm Natalie, 21 years old, from Connecticut. I've been into fitness on and off for the past few years but started doing it with firm regularity almost a year ago when it became very important to my health. I have epilepsy caused by a brain tumor, and working out has helped me stay healthy and seizure free by keep my stress level down and energy level up (stress and tiredness make me more susceptible).

I do several kinds of exercise, and was in great shape until a disaster of a birth control made me gain fat rapidly (see my thread in the weight loss forum to see what I'm doing, what it did, and maybe advise me?). Not looking to be competition worthy or anything, just healthy and toned. I was skinny as a teen and it looks bad on me (I'm 5'11") so as I try to lose this "hormone" weight I want to make sure there's something good under there.

So that's it, I'm here to learn and share my enthusiasm. So. Hello! :)

Hi and welcome.

Do you, by any chance, know of a Dan in Connecticut? I used to play StarCraft with him (a lot) I tried to find him in the past years to see how he's been...without luck...I recall him having an Italian background.

Anyhow...welcome :D

Eric

Hi Natalie, I'm from CT too. In one of your other posts I see you are a runner. I run as well and have started a small womens striders club. We run a couple of times a week and take turns choosing the location of the run. We run trails. road. trails and road, hills you name it. All to keep in shape and at the same time we get to socialize. I'm from the noetheastern part of CT so our runs are definitely never flat!! Welcome to the forum and keep at it! I'm also a personal trainer and might be able to answer any questions.

Go CT! :p I'm also in Northeastern Connecticut, for college, so if you're ever doing a run near me I might come along :) Let me know where those usually are.

And Eric, there are a lot of people called Dan in this state :p I know about five and a few of them have played Starcraft in the past. Don't know if they're Italian though....

I live about half hour from UCONN and we run a route in Mansfield. Also run the Mansfield Hollow Dam. Are you familiar? Ran a 5 mile loop in POmfret today. Pomfret is soooo hilly! I felt really slow and sluggish. I also ran the Deary Memorial Road race this past Sat. in Putnam. That's a fun run (5 miles). We run many loops in the Pomfret area. Very scenic. I should get your email if you have one.

Well it won't let me pm you my e-mail address yet because I'm too new, and I'd rather not post it, but when I can send it to you I will. If you have Yahoo though you can IM me - RedPanda86. But I do know about the Mansfield Hollow Dam and the running/biking route people use there. I've also run a few of the trails in Mansfield and I run around the UConn campus quite a bit. I don't do well in high heat/high humidity, but as fall comes I should survive better. Longest I've run so far is 6.5 miles in one go, so I think I could survive 5 mile runs.

What's the prognosis on the brain tumor, sorry to hear about that, glad you seem to be keeping it under control right now

Well the tumor is inoperable due to its very delicate location. Its a rare kind, ganglioglioma (which I may have spelled wrong but its kind of a fun word to say, I guess.) I get MRI scans every six months or so to keep an eye on it, and it hasn't changed significantly in awhile, which is good. The main problem it causes are the seizures, each time I have one brain damage is caused to my speech and memory centers and its slowly causing stuttering problems, word recall issues and such, but nothing huge yet. Exercise has really helped me decrease the seizures to the point I stopped having to take seizure medication regularly, which is great because those pills have so many side effects (chest pains, headaches, stomach aches, etc.).
