HIIT while bulking

I love this place, I always have so many questions and I can usually find them by lookin around and if not... I can just ask ppl who know!

If I'm eating 3,000 calories per day and doing alternating FBW 3 days per week, would I be wasting my time by doing HIIT 2 or maybe 3 times per week?

I know most people say you should pick 1 or the other... either bulk or cut. While I'm the biggest I've ever been I'm not in good shape due to almost no cardio work over the last couple years, which is why I want to add HIIT to help w/ endurance as well as just to get the heart pumpin.

I've heard not to do it the same day you lift because you risk overtraining and I've heard not to do it on off-days because they should be used strictly for muscle recovery... So do HIIT after you lift or do it on the non-lifting days?

My question is this: Why do you need calories to put on muscle? The main concern should be protein for muscle building, not calories.

I have been able to put on muscle and also cut fat at the same time by doing 2 upper body and 2 lower body workouts a week (seperate days) while doing 20 minutes of cardio on an eliptical machine after each workout.

Cardio is an EXCELLENT idea while bulking. if you are an endomorph, cardio is a MUST whether bulking or cutting. It will keep you healthy, and help oxidate fat( keep fat gains down ).

Eat in a slight surplus, take in enough protein. and do the damn cardio!
good luck.

My average protein intake per day is 173g.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm more of an Ecto not an Endo.

I'm still curious if I am using HIIT should I be performing this exercise on the days I lift or on the off days?

Off days is preferable. If you must do it the same day, then have some protein and carbs between lifting and HIIT.

Tone...If you are going to do cardio after lifting, then let it be HIIT. Keep it short and sweet. 20 minutes of HIIT after your weight training, and you are good to go. That being said, you should always do some sort of cardio no matter what phase of training you are in. No sense in having a strong body if your heart is out of shape.

If you are worried about burning off muscle from doing cardio though, you can always sip on a protein shake during your workout to keep your glycogen levels up some.
