Hi all

I want to post this thread to say hi to everyone and say that I am a new member to this online community.

I want to lose 2 steon (14lbs) at least!!!

Two months ago I had given somking and joined the gym!!!! 2 months down the road I am proud to say I have been attending the gym every Week. I am currently doing 3 spinning 45 min classes, 2 aerobis 60 min classes, daily walking 30 to 45 mins and 3 hours of tennis per week topped up with around 90 mins cycling.

3 weeks ago I weighed myself and discoverd that I had put half a stone (7lbs). I was baffled by this but came to the conclsion that I was eating more calories than I could burn. So last week I decided to keep a food dairy and to my horror it came to light that I was consuming at least 200 to 500 (depending what was eaten) calories more than the reccommended BMR amount plus including the calories I was burning.

Last week I had managed to eat 2684 less calories. I am aiming to eat 3500 less this week!!!

I have not weighed this week but I am not expecting to have lost anything...I am basically wanting reassurance to clarify that I should not give up and that I am tackling my weight loss in a realistic and senisable manner.

Any advise and useful suggestions would be gratefullty received.

Signing off for now

Welcome to the community and congrats on proactively pursuing your goals.

Give up?

Why on Earth would you give up?

Management of expectations is key when it comes to adopting this lifestyle. You can't expect to have a smooth ride to your goal body. That's not how things work, AT ALL!

It's a touch & feel process. You try something, test the results, if the results aren't there you assess your 'program' and identify possible errors, and then adjust accordingly.

What's great is that's exactly what you did, it seems.

What's troubling is you then go on to ask if you should give up.

Manage those expectations.

What you were saying about your calories didn't make a lot of sense to me but it's early and I'm tired, lol.

14 or 15 calories per pound can be considered your maintenance. From there, create a deficit by subtracting 20-30%. Every few weeks take measurements, pictures and weight which will help paint a picture of whether things are working or not. If they're not (losing too little or too much), adjust your nutrition/exercise accordingly.

I'll note too that the foods that comprise said calories are also very important too.

Hi Steve

Thanks for reylping to my post.

I wont be giving I am enjoying being too healthy and looking forward to being more toned and thletic (my thigh muscles have increased in szie already)

The calorie bit:
For my weight which is 164 pounds I need to eat 1521 calories per day to stay alive etc (apparently). Depending what exercise I do I add that amount the my BMR.

For example : exercise: 30 mins cycling on flat ground burns 242 cals, walking 30 mins 113 and 60 mins aerobics burns 443 cals. Total caloires burnt 724 add this to BMR 1521 totals to 2254. Minus at least 500 cals....total can consume 1713. the total amount of calories I can consume would change daily depending on what exercise I do.

I hope that make sense....

I am hoping this will work, its early days...fingers crossed. I think I will weigh myself at the beginning of August just to see if I have shed any pounds. In theory if I east 3500 less calories a week you should lose one pound a week.
So in August, starting from last week 10 June, I should have lost 7lbs or 6lbs!!!!!

Hi Molly,

Like you, I quit smoking and put on weight. It took a few months for my weight loss efforts to pay off. I think your body might need some time to adjust to all the changes or something...

Anyhow, welcome to WLF!
