Hello everyone! My name is Lily and I am 27 years old and I have two children. I started my weight loss journey a week ago. My starting weight was 243 pounds and I am at 238 right now. I have been overweight for all of my adult life and most of my teen years. I fortunately don't have any health problems as of now but I don't want to wait to get that wake up call. I have a lot of history of Diabetes and high Blood Pressure so I want to avoid all those complications. I have tried many times to lose weight without any real success. I am really determined to lose about 100 pounds and I really need all the help I can get. I have cut down on all carbs and eating as healthy as possible. I'm not doing any exercise as of yet because I think I need to take baby steps. If anyone needs any support you can count on me! Good luck to everyone on their weight loss journey.

LILY!!!! Welcome to the forum. Let me start off by saying congrats on your progress so far of losing 5 POUNDS! That's great! We all have to start somewhere. There is a ton of support here and make sure you take your time and search well. One I'd say to check out is Advanced Weight Loss, many people in there trying to lose the amount you are. Plus there are a lot of success stories here of individuals losing 100, 200+ lbs. It can be done just don't give up.

I see you are are taking baby steps which can be beneficial. I caution you though to not take too small of steps where you don't begin to see effective results within three weeks or so. Here's a few things that got me going when I started.

1.Drink LOTS LOTS of water, 80-100 oz a day. If you don't like plain water, add in some Crystal Light. Or drink unsweetened tea or black coffee.

2. Eat BREAKFAST. I can't stress this enough. Your body needs something to kick start it's metabolism. Even if it's just a banana or apple, eat something in the morning.

3. Eat more of less. Instead of eating a couple larger meals each day, change it up to 4-6 smaller meals. This will keep your metabolism going throughout the day.

4. Burn more calories that you take in. You body naturally burns calories to survive, but if you feed your body well, and get the exercising going, you will see results.

*Remember, we are all here to help and give advice based on what has/has not worked for us. JUST ASK!

Hi and it's good to hear you're having progress.

Keep making small changes and you will be well on your way to being in better shape.

A note though: Carbs are not really your enemy, especially if you exercise. They are your immediate source of energy and will be eliminated faster than the rest of your nutrients. 40-55% of your diet should be carbs, but what you can do is get carbs from good sources of food such as whole wheat bread.

Thank you so much for your replies. I feel truly inspired and I will start exercising this week. I will definitely read into this wonderful site and I hope I can be successful this time. Thanks again!

If you need any motivation then you can remember this: if you lose weight now and quickly gain it back, you will end up with more body fat than before. This will make further weight loss even harder.

It helped me to remember that and I have gradually lost weight since. I think I lost about 10 pounds in the past month, but I have to admit I was a little lazy about tracking it from the start.

Welcome to the club Lily!

There defintely isn't a lack of motivation around here. I'm here most everyday for my fix.

Good luck and post your progress! We love good news!
