Hi.:waving: My name is Dave and I'm a personal trainer and diet advisor. My core background was in bodybuilding but, as I became more rounded (in the training sense.....not stomach!) I became more and more interested in general fitness, core stability and healthy eating. Hey, I do not profess to be a guru but, over the past 15 years, it's fair to say I've gained a fair bit of knowledge. Just to quantify things, most, in fact nearly ALL, my clients are interested in losing weight, toning, getting fit(ter) and leading healthier lifestyles. Please feel free to ask my advice on any of the above and I will try endeavour to answer you. I really do not have a lot of spare time so my visits here may be rather infrequent but I will try to make time to get on here at least 3-4 times a week. Equally, please feel free to PM me anytime.
In the meantime....stay focused, remember your motivation and, above all, ENJOY what you do! :hurray::hurray:

Best regards.........Dave

Hi Dave, I have been exercising since September 1, 2009. I have lost a total of 50lbs. The problem that I am having is that I hit a plateau for 3 months now and can’t seem to get out of it. Some days I’m 5 lbs less and other days I am 5lbs more. I lift weight 3 xs a week and do cardio 5 days a week (I also eat very healthy). People at the gym keep telling me how much thinner I look, but I haven’t lost any more. Need your advice! I am so frustrated!

Hi there.
Plateaus are an unfortunate fact I'm afraid. Whether it's training or diet. Without knowing your diet or training regime I can only generalise but I assume you have stuck fairly rigidly to the same patern? What tends to happen is your body gets used to your routines. With diets, if your diet is quite severe, your body tries to hold on to it's reserves know you are trying to deplete them. In this case you should try alternating with high protein/low carb weeks and medium carb/med protein weeks. Equally, have you factored in that muscle weighs considerably more than fat? How many meals do you eat a day? I always recommend to my clients that little but often is the healthy way. Eat a good breakfast with complex carbs included, 2 hrs later have an apple, eat a sensible 50/50 carb-protein lunch, 2 hour later try some mixed unsalted nuts and raisens, eat a sensible 60/40 carb-protein dinner, 2 hours later have a protein shake.
This is a very generalised version and calories/weight/metabolism etc needs to be factored. However, you have made great strides and I find your progress truely inspirational. You must not get frustrated! You've acheived wonders already it's just a matter of finding the right way forward. If you can tell me more about you (height, start weight, current weight, specific training, targets etc) I'll do my very best to help. In the meantime, stay focused, don't loose motivation and enjoy your achievments!

All the best.......... Dave
