Hello,

Just thought I'd drop by here first to introduce myself.

I've always been quite large for a girl (5 ft 8) and at my heaviest was touching on 17 stone. I've had a lot of peope say that 17 stone isn't that heavy, but it always made me feel out of place with my friends at the time.

Over the space of about 7 years I got my weight down to 11 stone and was really happy with myself and felt like a different person, however now I'm fast approaching my 30's and the weight has started to creep back on - 13 stone now.

I haven't changed my eating habbits, haven't changed my exercise regime, but it's still creeping on pound by pound and I refuse to go back to how I was because that will mean all my hard work and effort meant nothing.

Any advice from felllow members would be greatly appreciated, I know I am not a candidate for surgery, but any advise would be welcome.

Welcome to the forum.

You have done this before and certainly do not need surgery. You need to believe in yourself and of course you need to work hard.

I suggest that you evaluate your food in - not just looking at calories but your whole nutrition. You will have eaten in a controlled manner when you last lost weight - but I am sure that you will find that you are much less controlled nowadays.

Fill in your activity too and check your calorie balance... That is the weight loss that you deserve.

Check out the sections on nutrition and exercise. Pay particular attention to the sticky threads.

Dont fall for the trap of setting calories too low. It is often better to have a deficit at a decent level of calories - giving room to reduce things if it gets sticky. I mention this because you have lost weight in the past - and people used to think that we should all diet on silly low numbers of calories like 1000 calories or 1200 calories in the day.

Activity is very important. A lot of people get less active as they get older which in turn can often lead to a weight gain. Losing weight is therefore less easy as we get older. It is certainly more than possible though. Many people here have lost substantial amounts of weight while being no longer in the first flush of youth. I am 50 years of age and have lost 12 stone. There are plenty of people here who have lost as much or more than me.

You are wise to be addressing this while it is still at a manageable level. I wish that I had been wise and strongwilled enough to do the same.

Good luck.
