I'm :newbie: to this site but not new to working out. I thought I'd join here to find more support and information. It's always easier for me to do something in a group, so here I am.

Hello to you all.

I have a few goals in mind which requires me to drop some extra baggage. I'm currently trying to slim down for a Physical Abilities test which calls for me to run 1.5 miles in under 12 mins and an assortment of other fun stuff.

I'm 6' 2 and I weigh just over 300 lbs. I've been in and out of the gym for the past year and a half, building up muscle but I can't seem to drop the weight. Now I've cut back on weightlifting and focusing more cardio (HIIT, ugh...) and also I think I need to work on a diet I can actually stick with. Well, all that brings me here. I hope I can find some support and give support in all of this.

Welcome to the forum.
Like me I was just over 300lbs and my weight is slowly coming off. The key is maintaing a balanced and healthy diet (not starvation) and exersizing to burn off the cals. Oh and Motivation and determination help too. You will find quite a bit of this in these forums.

Welcome welcome! I hope you find the help and whatnot that you need here. What are your eating patterns like and how about your exercise routine?

Well, I calorie count as much as I can and I try to limit myself to how much I can effectively burn off. I don't really add breakfast (usually an english muffin with peanut butter and water) or dinner (for the most part, 92% or above lean beef or skinless and boneless chicken breast with a salad or rice).

Everything else throughout the day, I keep small things on me to eat every so often. I've been eating a meal replacement bar a few hours after a eat breakfast then I'll eat a tuna sandwich on whole grain bread with rice cakes.

With all that said, I can honestly say I have no problem with eating these things (I cut WAY back on what I use to eat) and I still don't feel like I'm losing the weight.

When I first started working out, I focused more on weights than anything so I've gotten more bulky. It's okay but I want to drop down to 240 to 220 then gain back the muscle.

(Hope all that means sense. lol)

The only problem is I don't know if I'm doing the right thing or not. My wife is a completely different story but I'd like to be able to help her lose too. All I've told her is if she ran daily and cut back, she'll lose but she's not losing as fast as she'd like (wants to lose constant with the weight I lose)

Hopefully she'll realize that everyone's body is different, so losing at the same rate isn't exactly a realistic goal. Setting self goals is important. My physical therapist said that 30 minutes of cardio a day is a necessity in losing weight for most people, so if you two can maybe get jogs in together or something... it would be motivational for each other. Don't cut the weights completely out because that is part of staying healthy as well.
