Here's my story

So I weighed today and I'm down to 271.0!
That's a total of 11 lbs. so far!
I have to admit that I am kind of discouraged that the weight isn't flying off like it did the first week, but I know that every pound counts!

the Scale is a good tool.... I seen someone said they should have thrown the scale away. I did a Utube video on "The Horror Of The Scale" Take a look and let's talk... I hope everyone has a great weekend
The Link To the Video Is

Thanks for that video link hawgdaddy! It helped me a lot! Now I don't sweat it if there's a couple of pounds difference on the scale. Usually it's because I've just eaten or something like that.
Oh and I've lost another pound! That's 12 lbs. in 2 weeks! I'm very proud!
How much weight do you guys think I can lose by June 13th (my wedding day!)?
I originally wanted to try to be down to 240 lbs., but I don't know if that's reasonable. What do you think?
And as always, thanks for the support!

Just wanted to update! I'm down another pound! I'm walking everyday and still watching what I eat. No one answered the question if they think I'll be able to lose another 20 or so pounds before my wedding on June 13th.
I just don't know if that's realistic or not. =/

Hey hun

if you put in a lot of work, really focused on eating right and doing a whole bunch of exercise I think you could. But dont push yourself, listen to your body

That is about 6 weeks away if my math is right. Yes, you could possibly lose 20 more pounds by then but what if you don't? Don't get down on yourself or think that you failed. You are just beginning. You have a long way to go so don't be too hard on yourself right away. It is good to work hard and be dedicated early on but don't forget that this is going to be a long journey, possibly one to two YEARS. And by then you will realize you want to stay fit for life.

I think you are off to a great start and I think if you keep the right mind set you will be one of the winners in the battle to lose weight. My suggestion for right now is to rethink your short term goals just a little bit. Maybe have 250 as your first short term goal. Then maybe 225. Then 200. Etc. Something like that anyway. Give yourself a pat on the back and a smile each time you achieve a new goal weight and then put it behind you and focus on the next goal weight. You will probably find each one will get more difficult but that is when you grow in mental strength too because you have to dig deep and keep pushing on.

Great job so far and good luck on continued weight loss and improved wellness. :coolgleamA:

Thanks Derrick!
I think that changing my goals to what you said is a great idea!
I'm going to just try to focus to getting to 250lbs. now and then worry about each new goal as I meet them.
If I don't make it by my wedding, I wont get discouraged! I know I'm working hard and have completely changed the way I think about food, so I'm proud no matter what! I know this will take time and keeping it up will be a life long commitment.
Thanks to everyone in this group I feel like I can really make it this time!
I'll keep everyone posted!
Also is it weird that I haven't really noticed a change in my body yet?

That's not weird at all. The mind is a funny thing. It took me a long time to see changes in the mirror. I could see them in pictures and I kept having to buy smaller clothes, but looking in the mirror, I guess you focus on those parts that still need the most work, for me it's my gut. It still drives me nuts.

You're off to a great start and you have a fantastic attitude. Keep doing what you're doing.

Amen to that. Rob is right. I still look in the mirror and think I have not changed all that much. I also look at my gut and think it is still as big as it was a year ago. Not until I look at my progress photos do I say wow. However, the way I feel and what I can do physically is much easier to notice the changes.

Take good progress photos every 10 lbs. I would say every month but if you have a bad month that method can be discouraging. Take them from the same angles each time and from the same distance, same background and same lighting and camera settings, etc. Then when you look at the photos side by side you'd have to be blind not to see the progress. ;)

Hey everyone!
So sadly I can't update and say that I've lost anymore weight b/c I haven't. I'm frustrated. I know this weight isn't going to fly off, but gahhhh.
So I have a question, should I switch to calorie counting or stay with the weight watchers point system?
Which works better in everyone's opinion?
And as far as exercising, can anyone tell me how much/what kind of exercising I should be doing?

Come on people!
I'm getting discouraged!
Can anyone tell me if weight watchers or plain old calorie counting is better?
<3

Well, I don't know if there's a plan that's 'better' than another plan. What works for some, may not work for others. I had tried many different things, but low carb worked for me. I think that probably the idea that makes the most sense is figuring out your Basal Metabolic Rate - the amount of calories that your body burns daily - then subtracting a set amount of calories from that amount (300 - 500), making sound food choices by eating enough protein and complex carbohydrates and good fats. Finally add in cardio and resistance training 3-5 times a week. I don't think when I started that I could have kept that up for long. Maybe the points system will work for you. I'd say, pick one and see if you can do it. If it doesn't work for you, then you can always try something else.

Very similar, WW counts points instead of calories. WW has the calories deficit built in.

My feeling is they both will work as long as you follow them. Count your points or calories and you will lose weight.

Why are you discouraged?

Matt

I use weight watchers and personally..I think the points system rocks.
Once you start gettin the hang of what foods are low points and how much you can eat, etc. You'll start thinking in points. I can go a whole day without tracking but mentally knw if I'm on track or not.

WW's points is just a way to take calories/fat/fiber all into account instead of counting calories, then figuring out how much fat you need and fiber and such.

Either or work. I've done both.

Thanks people!
I think I'll just stick with weight watchers points. They've worked so far.
I just get discouraged b/c it seems like I'm stuck around the same weight. I need to start exercising more.

I need to start exercising more.

I can tell you, exercise is key. I concentrated more on exercise than eating habits the first time I lost weight, and just from going to the gym 7 days a week, I dropped from almost 200 lbs to 155 lbs in three months.

It can be done. Just be patient, be consistent, and don't give up!

I know I have to exercise to lose this weight! I'm going to start walking and riding my bike again. I also have a exercise tape. Any other ideas of good effective exercises? I would love to just join a gym, but I don't have the money for it. My little brother does have a weight lifting machine though and he lives right down the street. Should I be using that?

Hey KMT,

Just read your journal again and have some thoughts. I know you are currently trying to decide between WW and calorie counting. Ask yourself, do you love WW, are you being faithful to counting your points? If you love it and are faithful then stick with that. If not give cal counting a try. Doesnt mean you cant go back.

Not sure where you live but I know Planet Fitness (a gym in my area) costs 9.99 a month. That is very reasonable and most people can find that in their spending. It's eating out one less time a month, a few less stops at the local coffee shop, you get the idea. Check around your area and find what's the best price. Also, the sticky thread contains a lot of good exercise info. I know i go back and read them every so often for remenders and motivation.

Lastly, dont give up. You are here because you want to be and want to lose weight. You can do this. I promise, all the hard work you put into this will pay off.

Matt

Don't let that scale discourage you! My wife has been fighting the same battle. She's busting her rear exercising and she's eating better and the actual weight loss is slow. But...she's losing inches, and I told her that's what matters (a disclaimer for her is that she's on a medication that lists weight gain as a possible side effect so she's having to fight that, too).

To me, the best way to go is just common sense eating...I learned a long time ago (and what worked for me back then) is to avoid refined carbohydrates and fats, eat lots of fruit and vegetables, and to eat when you're hungry (and don't eat when your not). If you're body tells you it's hungry and you don't eat, your metabolism slows down.

Secondly, exercise is a must. It can be as simple as walking, or you can join a gym, or anything in between, but you have to keep moving.

You can do it! Don't get discouraged! I just joined up here myself and have found this to be a great support group

Thanks for all the support and tips !!
If it wasn't for this site I might have given up by now, but your support and all the inspiration here have kept me going!
