Help?

I'm new at muscle training and was wondering if someone could help me. Ok I'm about 5'4, 120 pounds and am trying to get a flat stomach and build all of my muscles. My stomach is kind of a bulge over my waist line so I want that to flatten out. I've had a gym membership for about a month know but havent done weight trainging because I didnt know which to do, I've been mostly doing stair master for 20 mins then various cardio. My questions are:

1)What are the core muscle areas I should consentrate on
2)For a beginner which excersices do you recommend
3)What is a good diet.
Right know my diet is:
12 (when I wake up): Cereal or a Tuna Sandwich
4 Chicken Breast
7 Usualy Pasta w/veg. Or a big salad w/1 chicken breast
10 A couple crackers

It sounds like your main goal is your abs because you weight is pretty good. The stairmaster is fine for your cardio work-out, but you won't lose the belly pouch with cardio alone. You can add Pilates, Yoga, weight-lifting, crunches and excercizes that make you twist your mid-section to work on your abs. You can look at the weight machines at your gym instead of free weights if you're not sure how to do free weights. When I went to the gym I'd go through most of the machines and did several reps. There should be someone at the gym who can help you get started.

I'm not a no carb kind of person, but your diet does seem to focus on carbs. Are you male or female? If you're female you're not getting enough calcium and I'm assuming you have milk in your cereal. My favorite sources of calcium are skim milk, fat-free yogurt, and low-fat cottage cheese. What type of cereal do you eat for breakfast? It should be high fiber, I've grown to like Wheaties :) How many crackers is a couple? 2? More?
