HELP...what can I do?

Hi There,

I am in desparate need for some guidance.... I am 27 years old and weigh 80 kg. I have always struggled with my weight. I have polysistic ovaries and find it very difficult to lose weight. I have been on wieght watchers, but once I get to a certain wieght I can not lose anymore, have been on weight watchers on and off for 4 years now! I reagularly attend the gym and would say I am reasonably fit.. I do kick-boxing, Boxerfit, spinning and go to the gym every week. I have a heart rate monitor which indicates that I burn off between 1600 - 2000 calories a week. I work as a special needs teacher which can be quite stressful and am on my feet all day. I have a reasonable diet, but after I go to the gym I eat at approximately 9.00 at night ! What am I doing wrong? Can anyone give any help am getting to the point of desparation... have started to investigate into something called lighter life... has anyone heard of it, if they have could you give me feedback... any help would be much appreciated! In Thanks

Do you do any sort of weight training? What does your diet look like in terms of # calories required/consumed, % fat, % protein, % carbohydrate? (You can get a free account at fitday.com to determine this).

My husband occasionaly takes me to do some light weights, however I feel uncomfortable even in the womens section as i don't feel as though I'm strong enough.

TBH I'm not too sure if I'm over or under on my calorie count. i suppose the first starting point is to work that out ?

I'd say so - with the calories you're burning your body might be in starvation mode which means it will try to store anything that you put into your mouth. It probably will sound paradoxical, but it's true - you need to eat to lose weight.

And as for the weights, NOBODY'S strong enough - if you were, you'd not need to train - that's why the weights are there! Everyone has to start somewhere, the key is increasing what you can do once you've started.

don't compare yourself to others in the gym. they have their goals, strengths, and weaknesses, just like you or I.

I wouldn't hit the light weights though...hit them harder. Go heavier, and start getting consistent about it.

I agree with the above.

Get to the gym and lift some weights - and not those cute little barbie weights, the real ones. ;)

Also, pcos can make it more difficult than usual to lose weight. Are you taking anything for your pcos? If so, maybe you could discuss with your doctor if weight gain is a side effect and if there are any alternatives available.

Yep, learn how to strength train properly and then get a really good focused routine going on. It should include these 5 areas:

1) Eat 5-6 small meals throughout the day. Each meal should be 2-3 hours apart. Each meal should contain one protein and one carb. The first meal should be eaten within an hour after waking.

2) Drink a cup of water at each meal.

3) Rest properly. This means taking at least 48 hours between strength training the same muscles, and it also means getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night. Lastly, it means taking 1-2 days off from exercising per week.

4) Cardio. This should be done at different intensity levels and different session lengths. Consider doing a low intensity/long session, a high intensity/short session and a few medium intensity/medium length sessions.

5) Strength Training. Strength train each muscle 1-3 times per week. You should lift a proper weight and perform the proper amount of sets/reps for your strength training method. If you need more guidance or exercise ideas please PM me.

All of the above things combined will result in fat loss.

Really?

Most people grossly overestimate their caloric intake and activity levels.

Have you ever seen a fat person walk out of a concentration camp?
