I basically talked to an instructor the other day, but i need some extra advice now.
Im pretty skinny, im about 6"3 and weight about 80kg (176 pounds) and i just want to get toned, not really to fussed about bulking up. The guy basically told me cause im skinny and dnt have much body fat that i can tone up by doing intensive cv. What would a instensive cv consist of? and what other workouts should i do? any advice would be wonderful!
Well, even if that were true, it would be better, wholistically, if you included resistance training into your fitness regiment.
I'm being very general here in my recommendations as I'm a little short on time to write anything else, but in your case, on top of cardio 3-5 days a week for at least a half hour (remember, the goal is still ALWAYS cardiovascular improvement, even if the goal is also SOMETIMES weight loss), I would add at least 3 full body workouts. By full body workouts, I mean working your legs, core (abs and lower back), upper back and shoulders, and chest... all you major movers, at least once.
Legs - squats/lunges, calf raises
Core - crunches, v-ups, planks, side planks, supermans
Shoulders/Back - pull-ups, rows, bent-over rows, military press, etc
Chest - push-ups, chest press, etc.
Resistance training with a focus on muscular endurance regiment would probably suit you pretty well and you could always shift to a strength regiment later if you want to. To train for muscular endurance, you want to work with a low to moderate resistance, 2-3 sets, 12+ repetitions, with around 1 minute of rest between sets.
As for "intensive" cardiovascular... I don't know what that means, if anything. Best bet would be HIIT (check cardio section of the forums), or a regimented cardio routine with an emphasis on increased intensity, either by increased distance or workout speed. I also recommend sports... perfect combination of both.
