Help For a Beginner?

Hi,
so im 17, 6ft 1 and weigh about 145pounds. ive never used anything to build muscle before, i dont even think i have any lol. however i recently bought a bench press that also has a hamstring curl the weights go up to 40kg, and i thought i would just have a go first see what i could do and see what i could lift, and rather embarassingly i done:
- normal bench press - 2 sets of 30reps
- incline bench press - 1 set of 25reps
- decline bench press - 1 set of 25 reps
and my arms where completey gone i coudnt lift another.

i then done 3sets of 25reps with the same weight and i just done the standing curl.

i was just wondering what sort of exercises i should be doing to get bigger arms, a defined chest, bigger shoulders? if anyone has been in my sitaution and has a training programme they can remember that would be great. should i be lifting heavier weights with lower reps? do protein shakes work? if so can i get any?
