Hello, peeps,

I have embarked on a health journey since august and I am kind of gutted I just discovered this forum-- it could have been such a big help when I needed it the most but hey, i enriched my knowledge through trial and error... anyway, 26 y/o lady and I managed to go from 84.7 kilos to 72.2 currently (this was the first time i went on a diet in my life and i only want to lose 5 more kilos overall) by ditching all processed sugar and switching to 5 meals a day-portion control- calorie control. I want to keep it up for life, ideally, and not just to lose weight.

at the moment i have no interest of eating things like colas, crisps, chocolates but i wonder if it is cos i am in the "zone" and if my mindset changes over time. i really hope not, but i used to love the junk so i don't feel too confident.

hopefully this is where you guys will come in

cheerio, Irene

If the five meals a day thing works for you for helping you to keep your calories in check - then that is great.

Just in case it is onerous for you - I felt that I ought to mention to you that the concept of it being any aid to your metabolism is a weight loss myth. It is of no aid to metabolism - but people keep believing that it is.

I suggest that you visit one or two diaries of maintainers to see what is going on for them.

There is a maintenance club which may be of interest to you too. You might want to back track through the postings from the start as there have been one or two useful links given.

thanks for the answers, guys.

@omega, thanks i'll try and check them out, and i know it doesn't make a difference to the metabolism but it helps me from being superhungry during the main meals and not wanting to snack on junk

@brawny... excersise is a problem. i used to be super athletic when i was younger, i used to run, swim, play tennis and do judo but now i have become a couch potato. i did the whole "pay for a gym membership you never go to" all last year... now i am trying to walk as much as i can, move as much as i can and hopefully when i feel a bit more confident that people wont be looking at my jiggly bits start running in the park :/

Good luck getting going on the new you.
remember
exercise leads to results leads to satisfation leads to more exercise

Be careful

Just don't ever touch the unhealthy stuff again. NEVER!! Been there, done that, many times :). Once your body is clean from all the nasties he doesn't need any of the junk food any longer and doesn't even approve the taste of it. But if you try twice, he will remember ( or better your brain does ) and you will fall back into old habits.
The best example that the body automatically knows what's good and bad is when we start out as babies. But being fed the nasties as processed sugars, sodium and other stuff our sense of taste get's used to it and you start craving for it. There where quite a few studies about this in the late 80th and the young babies who had never sugar never wanted any when they grew up.
