Hello

I am a 19 year old looking to shape, i am currently 6'1 and 13.3 stone in weight

i was staying shape thanks to football but unfortunately that has crumbled and as a result i am looking for an alternative

i can't stand jogging or running, but any other exercise is good - and time is not a problem. when i say i can't stand it, i have been doing 1 hours jog every night for the last 8 days as i have no other option, but i find it particularly boring unfortunately...

i hope to shed the fat around my stomach and hip area and then work apon on a 6 pac, which i was on the verge of a few years ago.

I have a question i would love to be answered, you see so many guides to getting six pacs, but is any of that worth while as long as you have a layer of fat over the top - or will it gradually burn off as part of this process?

i'm not too well up on the science of weight lose and which exercises are most efficient, i welcome all feedback and i am extremely motivated to ensure i reach my goal.

thanks in advance to anyone who offers there help

Tom

Hey Tom, nice to meetcha. I've got a similar dislike for jogging, but I've found some alternatives for myself that you might be interested in. Cardio exercises come in all shapes in sizes, but the more fun the better. I've done aerobic kickboxing; it's different everyday, and you learn to kick butt at the same time. Then there's any normal martial art, but that's a much longer process, generally. Sports are definitely good, as you know; I do a running alternative called Parkour, which involves leaping over objects (vaulting them, really), with great efficiency. If there's any place nearby with a good view, you can hike, and that's as good as running most times. Just a few suggestions.

I'm not sure about your question about six-packs, as I've never had one (that's one of my goals). But my understanding is that no matter how strong you abs are, you won't have a visible six-pack unless you lose the fat surrounding it. And that won't happen by doing crunches or the like. Cardio is a good way to go, imho.

Well, good luck, and see you around on the forums.

I like having something to occupy my mind while working out You may enjoy exercise videos or simple calesthenics while watching your favorite tv shows.

Personally, I work out on my nordic track while watching my favorite programs that I have recorded for watching while working out. :)

That's a good point Judy. I hate doing that, personally, because I can't focus on the TV show or whatever I'm watching. Maybe I'm just weird.
