I don't know what to say, so I'll just give you the straight facts... I'm an overweight housewife/student, three children, and more going on than I care to get into at this point.

I have always been on the yo-yo. I have experienced thinness and miss it, but have finally settled with reality that fitting into a size 10 will never happen again, however, fitting into an 18 isn't exactly fun. My weight has affected every facet of my life. My love life has suffered, my social life has suffered and my waistline is suffering (*cups hand to ear* can't you hear it sobbing? LOL)

Last year I managed to lose 55 lbs. I was so happy and finally able to buy clothes that I was proud to wear, but I quit smoking six months ago and ever since the scale keeps going, up, up, up. I have replaced cigarettes with anything I can get in my mouth and I need to get a handle on it, and fast!!!

Right now I'd be satisfied with getting off my duff and getting 30 minutes of walking in a day. I hope this works, or at least motivates me to do something more soon.

Thanks for letting me ramble... sweetchaos

Heya and welcome.

I have had the on again off again smoking thing myself, its a hard battle. Ive taken up sucking on sugar free mints - its not the same but it helps :)

Good luck!

Welcome to the forum! I have done that yo-yo thing myself. It's good to make a change! :)

Try sugarfree chewing gum instead of eating. It's how I keep my mouth busy!

Oh, and welcome!

Ah yes, I feel your pain very clearly. I'm a 16/18 and missing the days I was a 10. I'm trying to quit smoking now, myself. So, between losing weight and quitting smoking, being a stay-at-home mom of 2, and a general wreck, I think I can sympathize! I try to walk daily myself. The hardest thing for me is skipping a day... then the next.. and the one after. Then -swoosh!- a whole month is gone! I've only succeded in losing 15 lbs in a year (last year). It's taking me a while and I'm 24! I wish you the best of luck, and if you need someone to talk to, give me a holla!

Weight Mgt and Quitting

SoSel:

Quitting smoking was one of the most difficult things I have ever done. You are going to drive yourself crazy trying to do both (weight mgt and quitting). I would start with the quitting first. I used the patch, and sugar free hard candy. The trick is not to replace your cigarette with food, as I did... After you quit, THEN go back to your diet. You can still eat sensibly and use exercise as a tool to your quit but watching your weight too could potentially drive you mad.

There is a great site that I used - it's been a life saver. There are tons of ppl in chat that really helped me through the toughest part of the quit (first week).

Let me know how you are doing, I'm here if you need me.

Sweetchaos, thanks for the site link. I will definitely be looking into it. On the upside, I have my smoking down to 3 times a day. I have a pack and a half left, and refuse to buy anymore. Or, atleast, I hope so. My hubby got shipped of to training for a month, and it's just me and the kids, who don't smoke, so that's helped me tremendously. (The hubby has no desire to quit.) I'll let you know how it's going. =)

Thanks! SoSel

Hi Sweetchaos,
I just wanted to say hello and welcome you to the WLF!

CONGRATULATIONS on the quitting smoking bit - that is such a HUGE accomplishment!

You CAN kick this weight!
I look forward to getting to know you as you head towards your goals!

*OHD waves and shakes pom poms to celebrate your success and accomplishments thus far* CONGRATS on kicking smoking and just like M2M said you WILL master this weight loss thing as well.

I put in another vote for the sugarless gum. I ALWAYS keep Orbit gum with me, it really does help keep me from "grazing." As long as my mouth is busy my brain doesn't get the notion that it should be eating food.

Best of luck to you! I hope to see a lot of you around here! Welcome to the fam! :)
